In the Breisgau, the sunnierst region of Germany, only 30 km of Freiburg and in immediate proximity of the French border, the Hotel Stadt Breisach is located on the Muensterberg high above Breisach. Because of the unique location, the hotel offers a marvelous panoramic view over the Rhine, the Kaiserstuhl, the Black Forest and the Vosges. The late medieval Cathedral "St. Stephansmuenster", the emblem of the town is located directly opposite the hotel. Discover Breisach and the lovely surroundings of the three country corner during a vacation at Hotel Stadt Breisach. The Hotel has 70 comfortable single- and double rooms, the restaurant "Augustins" with panorama terrace, the Bar "DREIUNDZWANZIG" and 5 banquet rooms for up to 150 persons.
I recently spend 4 nights at the Hotel Stadt Breisach. Even though it was built in the 70s, the design and architecture of the hotel are great (I read it received an award). The view is fantastic and the location of the hotel is ideal for exploring this area, Kaiserstuhl, Schwarzwald and Vogesen. However, some rooms and hallways are really old-fashioned, crumbling and urgently need upgrading. Really used, old fixtures, furniture & carpets, no minibar/coffee facilities (I believe this is in progress). Really nice new pool, albeit a bit cold and a nice sun terrace. We did not use the sauna area but it looked really well done. It would have been nice had they offered a more extensive wellness-program (only massages), advertising it as a wellness hotel. The staff were very nice and helpful and the bar (open Thursday to Sunday only??) looked inviting. The restaurant was good, the terrace is beautiful. This hotel could be a real gem.

The Kapuzinergarten is situated on the top of the little hill of Breisach am Rhein with a beautiful and impressing view to the Kaiserstuhl, Tuniberg and Black Forest. Every room has this great view, you have the choice between the rooms in cottage-style (higher class) and the monastery-style (standard class). The cottage rooms have each an individual interior decoration and are very comfortable. The monastery rooms have a special charm due to several antiquities from a real monastery. The Restaurant Kapuzinergarten is in the house and has a great view, especially on the glazed terrace. Wines from the region you are watching while your diner are at your choice. Wines since 1974 are in the big wine cellar. Breisach is well situated for day tours to Freiburg or Colmar (25 Minutes) or Basel and Straßbourg (1 Hour to drive to). Engelbert Hau and his team are looking forward to your visit!
Everything was OK, however we found everything a bit chaotic especially at breakfast time due to the method of dealing with protection against covid. The staff were very helpful and try very hard to make your stay a nice one.

Stayed here after reading mostly positive reviews about this hotel. Maybe they had an off-day but the service was not kind at all. It was very busy and maybe that’s why. We booked half pension but should have told them before ordering dinner. The next day we had a big discussion about this when paying the bill. Food was not bad but quite expensive for German standard, nothing special. The room was spacious but beds are small and interior is very outdated. Have stayed in better places for less.

Four of us - two couples - celebrated our Emerald Wedding Anniversary dinner at the Adler and, as expected, it was a very good dinner, with excellent service. Of particular note, was the snail soup and the beef carpaccio - both excellent.
