We were in Barnstaple for a couple of days and wanted somewhere nice to eat, and preferably an independent establishment. We came across Clayton and the Glasshouse of a side street. We were quite late for lunch but impressed with the choices which included several fish options and a âchefs choiceâ. The food was really tasty and served with a nice selection of well cooked veg. The wine we ordered was lovely. Service was great, nice friendly staff who offered to show us the amazing roof terrace, lots of glass, a covered and open area, we will go back just to eat upstairs! All in all we really enjoyed this place and so happy to find somewhere that wasnât your same old chain food!Thank you for your review! If there was no star rating, this would place would get it. Nice welcome, then down hill all the way. Staff are not trained. Potted crab had shell in it, unseasoned, but nicely presented. Waitress tried to clear our plates before we had finished, my partner had I had not! Main course. Chicken parmigiana, how do I start?? Chicken Brest in breadcrumbs, deep fried served with linguine in tomato sauce. Chicken over cooked, this is because it should have been butterfly cut and beaten, pan fried in butter and olive oil. Till golden brown. As for the linguine, it was was over cooked and they must have forgot the salt in the water. The tomato sauce was out of a jar. Just disgusting. A tomato sauce is one of the easiest things to make. On the menu it states Fresh Basil not a chance it was dried. I had the same starter but the Chicken Caesar Salad, what was dumped in front of me was not a Chicken Cesar Salad. Just a few old lettuce leaves an over cooked Chicken Breast it was over cooked by more than 10 minutes, rubbery, no taste I couldnât eat it. I didnât nor did my partner as his was no better. Now for the Salad part limp lettuce a spot of dressing, out of a packet croutons and a very small amount of finely grated Parmigiana. Disgusting. A Caesar Salad should have Romano or baby gem lettuce, hard boiled egg, and shards Anchovies and bacon, and shards of Parmigiana, It had non of it. Itâs traditionally made at the table. We work hard 6 days a week so like to relax with a nice meal. I know what I am talking about with food I have been cooking for 50 years, and just won 2 one stars in the Great Taste awards. Typical British seaside RIPOFF it way over priced for Westward Ho! I would happily come in and teach your cook, how to cook as he is not a Chef! But I am not cheap! This exact response has been posted to your partner. As you came together.Dear Sir,In response to your review we feel that it is extremely unfair. Unfortunately you do not know our head chef, he is very tallented and very hard working with a fantastic work ethic. All of our staff worked extremely hard that evening on what was a very busy night for them, we are a small family restaurant. We as a professional establishment feel that you as a fellow chef made a scene in front of all the other customers when it could have been dealt with in a calm manner. We are more than happy to discuss your concerns and answer your questions if you would like to come in and speak to us. As you can see from our many other reviews they are all positive as were all of the customers when you left the restaurant, they very much enjoyed their evening. We always aim to make our customers happy, and always do our best and our regular customers and reviews support that. Kind regardsThe Drift Restaurant

We visited here while on holiday in croyde. There was a great selection of different food, something for everyone! I got the lamb which was excellent, full of flavour and cooked perfectly. My partner got the chicken, which was just as good. For desert I had the cream tea and creme brûlée as I just couldnât pick! Both as good as each other. Scones seemed fresh and arrived warm. Creme brûlée come as nice big portion. Service throughout the meal was great, friendly staff and very attentive. Will definitely be returning on future holidays to croyde.

My husband and I recently moved to Woolacombe and celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary at NC. It was an amazing evening. Noel and Nora make a great team and everything served was impeccable from the first course to Nora's famous mexican coffee to end off with. I'm unfortunately allergic to shellfish and having checked with Noel before booking he was able to allow for this. I didn't miss out on any courses and his substitutes were delicious. Being able to watch him prepare the food and plate was such a fantastic experience as I'm a foodie and love watching the creations. Met some lovely couples in the intimate setting as well. Perfect anniversary evening - looking forward to our 18th there! Jaunita and Gavin Gobby
