The Royal Garden in Berlin is a popular restaurant that pampers its guests with the best of the East Asian cuisine in a unique atmosphere: Stunning sculptures replicating the original Terracotta soldiers form a creative design at the center of the room. T
I attended a birthday meal here. We had booked so got given our own small private dining room. The restaurant is located outside of the city centre, and not really ideal if you are staying int he city and using public transport.Inside the restaurant was nice decor and clean. The private room had a large round table with a centre turntable on it, so you could rotate the food dishes to you.The buffet had a good selection of food, both starters and mains. There was also a section where the food was raw such as steaks, prawns, fish where you placed it onto a plate and took it to one of the chefs who would cook it up for you on a large grill hot plate. I took up a selection of meats and seafood and it was all cooked beautifully, and not over cooked at all.Over all the food was good. It was hot, and tasty, and best of all, it was all you can eat.

I am always suspicious of restaurants that have a mix of cuisines, such as an Italian restaurant that also sells Mexican food, or as in this case a Vietnamese restaurant that also sells sushi. We visited for lunch and the place was quiet but also welcoming, nice decor and friendly staff. The food however was just ok - and it took far too long to arrive for a lunchtime when people are on a lunchbreak. The Vietnamese dishes were very Germanised, and not too authentic, but they tasted ok. We asked for fish sauce with chillis and instead of fresh chillis, got a splat of chili sauce in a dish. The sushi however was the worst sushi I have ever eaten.. Not only were the pieces tiny (the Nigiri was really small - a ball of rice the size of an almond with a slice of fish on top about 3mm thick), the nori/seaweed was tough like rubber and impossible to chew. I chose a Sushi platter of 6 tiny Nigiri, 4 maki and 4 inside out sushi - and it cost â¬15!The other dishes are similarly higher-end cost. The average rating is based on the friendly staff and that the Vietnamese offerings were only good, just not great.

This gigantic restaurant is a buffet style all-you-can-eat-in-a-given-amount-of-time kind of place. There are four lines of food, including one of raw meats and vegetables that can be cooked in the style of Mongolian BBQ. There were quite a few types of meat including beef, pork, lamb, chicken, turkey, duck, kangaroo, and about twelve kinds of fresh fish. There was a large variety of fried things, sushi-like items, seaweed salad, etc.etc. The variety was really astounding. So why the average rating? The food, despite the prodigious quantities and excellent price per volume, was just OK. Certainly not bad, but neither was it a gastronomic treat. If you are looking for a lot of food for a fixed price, this is your place. Great value. Go to town!My preference is for something a bit more upscale, even if it costs more and you get fewer calories. But that's just me. For some people - and you know who you are - Shi Shan is perfect.
