We were looking for somewhere to eat as part of a stop over whilst travelling further south. Looked at the reviews on this site and had a wander around and chose Le Cercle. We were lucky to get in as we had the last free table as all the rest were booked on a busy Friday night. Friendly front of house staff who explained the fairly simple menu and the food was served quickly, very tasty and good value. There may be lots of other fine Moroccan restaurants across France but the point is that this happens to be in Auxerre and does its job well!

We had tried to get in the owner's other restaurant a little closer to the bridge and our hotel...but it was fully booked; so the waitress directed us here. We were glad she did. It appeared to be the owner who took care of us. Other patrons seemed to be locals; a good sign. The couscous was excellent and copious. The Moroccan 'vin Gris' was just right. Decor was homey and nice. Quite a small place; you might want to call for reservations.

I discovered northern African cuisine in France; a well made Tagine is one of my comfort foods; good flavors mixed together, not too heavy and usually quickly prepared and delivered to me. Le Mouflon d'Or was introduced to me by a colleague who's been there before; we enjoyed a very good meal together. I chose my standard, a Tagine d'Agneau avec Pruneaux, he chose a Tagine Poulet avec citron. I did not taste his but mine was excellent. Service was good, wine good, and total cost not bad (~50euro for two)Le Mouflon d'Or is located near the theatre, about midway down the hill from the hotel I usually use, and a bit out of the way of my usual evening walks. Depending on where you're staying in Auxerre, it might actually be close for you. I recommend the restaurant.

I visited based on the high score on Trip Advisor. Unfortunately the restaurant was, in my opinion very average. A fairly disinterested maitre de showed us to the nearest table and deposited the menus. I chose the mixed grill and salad. The meat was prepared on the open grill and tasted ok. The salad was too basic; onion, tomato and cucumber on a bed of lettuce. The real problem with this place is that it is careless. The service was sloppy, several minutes after my main arrived a hot skewer of the beef was plonked on my plate to complete the dish, I nearly burnt myself on the metal. Although the menu is entirely typical there aren no Moroccan beers and no Moroccan tea. Basic elements of a good Moroccan restaurant. Best avoided.
