Good friendly service, even though quite slow. The restaurant was absolutely packed, so that was possibly the reason.
All food was beautifully presented. Very nice choice of wines, we picked Pouilly Fumé and were definitely not disappointed.
However, food was unpredictable and "unstable" quality-wise. One of the starters (lobster and tomato variations) was absolutely delightful, an explosion of colour and taste and very well cooked. One of the best dishes I've ever had.
The second starter (cod) was again beautifully presented, but borderline uneatable as was super super saulty. A great pity as you could see the base product was of amazing quality, such a pity it was spoilt...
Then came the main course (beef) which was just ok, but the whole dish was very flat taste-wise.
The desert of apricot cake was tasty and a spoonful of basil sorbet added a touch of welcome freshness.
All in all a rather disappointing experience.

Compared with other restaurants in Tongeren, this is probably the best price/quality in town. We took the surprise 4 menu with adapted wines for €75 and really had a wonderful experience. It was worth every cent and penny. Quality of food, drinks, service and atmosphere: all where top! Full of locals also, to celebrate special occasions. Go there and you will see.

Le 54 is a small, pleasantly styled restaurant (about 24 couverts). Apart from having to choose from an Italy-oriented wine list, the only thing you need to decide is whether to opt for a three (38 Euro), four, or five-course (55 Euro) dinner. We opted for the full monty. Each dish, including the amuse, was refined and nicely presented. The only drawback was that the whole meal took about 3 hours. But given the quality of the dinner, we did not regret going to Le 54 and having to wait for so long. Reserving is recommended.

If you can, ask for a table in front of the kitchen, so you can watch everything they do to prepare your food.
It was a great evening.

Ate there for a family get together. I have reviewed this restaurant before, but after some time, I was glad to notice it was equally good quality food, well cooked with splendid ingredients and nicely presented. We went for lunch and were informed we could choose dishes from the "evening" menu. We had four courses and coffee. The wines are carefully selected and of excellent quality (Spanish, Italian, Australian), a very good pairing with the food. Five nibbles (all equally delicious) to start with. Coffee came with a variety of sweet dishes. Ambience is very agreeable. The owner (also maitre d') goes out of his way to please, but is a little loud when announcing the courses or the menu. It is very clear that he learned his text well, but softer would be nicer. In the whole picture of things, this, however, is just a detail.

When we are in full carnivore-mode, there typically 3 steakhouses in and around Sint-Truiden that we go to get our fix.
These are the “Steakhouse Sint Trudo”, a place called “Vleesgegroet” and this one “In de Zwaan”. Each of those places has their pros and cons.
But, for a hearty soup to start and served with good-quality bread, and all that followed by an honest steak with great sauce(s) and excellent fries, this restaurant is always a solid bet.

Mondevino is a small restaurant. Lunch or a la carte. We ate a la carte and it was terrific. On the menu each course is mentioned with its favourit wine that you can order by glass (between 5 and 8 Euro).
As starter we had baked foie gras, main course was sole. Food is dayl fresh, wines are superb.
Definitly a place to go back.

This is why we like to go a restaurant: innovative, beautiful and delicious dishes. Every self-respecting cook can produce some nice brasserie-dishes, but this... you can't do this at home. We went on a quiet evening and took the 5-course menu. It took more than 3 hours, but we've enjoyed it. We'll be back
