Family run country Pub and Restaurant serving pub lunches and evening dining in our A La Carte Restaurant all our food is cooked with local produce. Our food is all cooked from fresh by trained chefs.
Went to Bobs Smithy today for tea with family, booked a table for 4pm didnât get seated until 4-30 not to worried these things happenThe food was mediocre and the service was extremely slow, 4 of us had starters the children did not.at 6pm the children still hadnât had anything to eat, the roast beef dinner was very nice, my friend had salmon and was very disappointed with the size of the salmon,I had a vegetarian leek and mushroom pie, the pastry was that hard it shattered and the filling dry and burnt not at all goodThe decor was nice and it was cleanSorry wonât be going again Carol RIâm sorry to hear about your recent disappointment at Bobâs.We had an extremely busy service on that day and I do apologise about your wait on food. We are currently taking steps to resolve this issue.Iâm sorry that some of the food wasnât to your liking. If you would of told us when we checked back on your table it would of been rectified immediately.I hope you do give Bobâs another try as all our customers are very important to us.Kind regardsRobert NelsonGeneral Manager

Enthusiastic staff keen to settle you at a table and take your order. Asked about vegan options, staff were knowledgable and made appropriate recommendations. After generous main courses, we were still tempted to go for a sweet, and the apple pie and custard didn't disappoint. Not as close to the canal as some places in Leigh, but well worth the effort of a 5 minute walk.

We were celebrating a special occasion and from the reviews I had read, I selected Nicks as the place to celebrate. I had always wanted to dine here due to it's great reputation amongst Boltonions. We admittedly booked late and weren't surprised to be led out of the main dining area and up the stairs to the smaller dining area which some would say is more intimate, others less atmospheric.I don't really care how a restaurant looks as the food should always be the star. However, the tables were very cheap looking with faux wood on the surface. There was a collection of seemingly unused wooden boards stacked against the fire exit, which was rather alarming. The menu was chalked onto the black boards on the wall and we were both somewhat taken aback by the prices. The dishes appeared to be about £5 more than the average restaurant. I told myself that this wasn't an average restaurant and the quality of the food would shine through. My partner started with the scallops and I the tandoori chicken. The scallops were good, the chicken was a very small portion and rather dry. Not one for normally choosing steaks at a restaurant, I opted for the fillet steak as I thought that for nearly £29, it had to be a fantastic piece of meat. My partner chose the seabass.I'm a bit of a steak connoisseur and when my plate arrived I could see that this piece of meat was overcooked. I pressed it and there was no give in it and it was bone dry. It certainly didn't feel medium. Cutting into it left me with no doubt that I would be sending it back. It wasn't right. It was also small and I couldn't understand how it was priced so highly. I have seen far better quality at local supermarkets and can cook a steak far better than that. My partner tried a mouthful and actually spat it out into a serviette saying it was unpleasant. I sent it back.My partner enjoyed the fish but ate two of the accompanying chips and half of a roast potato. Even after craving carbs all week, she didn't eat anymore, reporting that the chips were greasy and the potatoes obviously cooked from frozen and having an awful taste. I agreed. The waitress brought my steak back and it had now been cut in half. She said that the chef had informed her that it was cooked as requested. I disagreed and didn't particularly want anything from the menu. I ate the plain white rice that I had ordered with the steak. We weren't charged for the steak but the bill still came to £62. The draught peroni was 5.50 a pint and the glass of house white wine, almost £7. We thought this extortionate. We were both bitterly disappointed by this restaurant and felt ripped off by the price of what was a very average meal. Had the meal been up to standard, I would happily pay the high prices.I will never return to this restaurant.

A traditional elegant English Edwardian tea room based in Horwich in Bolton. Serving Ronnefeldt loose leaf teas, fresh Lavazza coffee, home-made cakes, luxury fruit scones, delights, light breakfasts and lunches. Afternoon Teas a speciality.
We visited Poppins Tea Rooms on a Groupon High Tea Voucher. We have had several Groupon vouchers, to various restaurants in the past and we can say this is one of the best ones. The two lady staff present were friendly and attentive and the high tea was very tasty and filling. We had a look at the menu and the choices looked varied and reasonably priced. We noticed that the soup and bloomer seemed very popular amongst the other guests, and the sandwiches and meals looked equally tasty. We will be back to sample the menu again. We're so glad to hear you enjoyed your visit, and that our staff lived up to Poppins standards! Thank you for taking the time to write this kind review, we look forward to seeing you again :)

This is a fairly regular haunt for us and we always enjoy our time there. We have eaten there in the past and it is decent enough but we generally just go for drinks. This latest visit was on a cold autumnal evening and we got a lovely table right by the open fire. This creates a lovely atmosphere to enjoy something from the good range of well priced and well kept drinks. The place keeps ticking over but is generally laid-back and relaxing place to spend an hour or so. Thereâs lots of free parking as well.

Hello, I visited here with friends and I ordered the salmon sandwich......mmmmm I hear you all cry!I was crying when I saw what they served up and for the price!!! It wasnât even what could be classed as a bistro/deli sandwich.....it was the smallest amount of salmon Iâve ever seen on a sandwich.....mind you they might have very very small salmon in that neck of the woods......itâs westhoughton which although nice, itâs not central Manchester nor the ribble valley.....so why they charging city prices for somewhere between somewhere and somewhere else.....Really do believe the food is worth it? Mistaken!
