We were there during December for a dinner and made a reservation to get a good place near the big windows where you have sensational view on the lake (Ossiacher See)
During summer it must be wonderful to sit outside on the Terrace (view and atmosphere)
The portions were quite big, very tasty and the price was on an average level which we considered as good ratio between quality and price.

This is a proper gourmet restaurant. We travel all the time and love our food - and can say this is a proper restaurant.
It's not just that the food is of high quality, beautifully presented, cooked to perfection, but the service is attentive and professional.

Fresh, uncomplicated meals by day (Lunch am Tag) exquisite steaks, salad and antipasti and wine by night (Steakhaus)
Was there twice during our visit and had stake, lamb and surf&turf. All were absolutely top notch. There is an abundant salad bar where everyone can find a good choice of delicious appetisers and side dishes. Service was very fast. During holiday season, in the evening hours a reservation is advisable. Prices are high.

We went to Fruhmann on a Sunday, which is probably one of the busiest days of the week. The food was good, but the waiters and waitresses seemed stressed and were even having arguments in front of customers. When you enter the restaurant a huge smoke cloud comes towards you. I would not recommend this place to anyone who lives conscious enough to care for their lungs. Also, it might not be such a healthy environment for children, if you care about their lungs and health too.
Everyone seems to go there, because of the huge servings of meat and the value for money.

Four of us dined on a busy holiday after selecting this place from Tripadvisor and, independently, having it recommended by our hotel owner. We were not disappointed. Service is focused. How such young people can be so professional, well, let's just say I'm not used to this in California.
The dishes we ordered were, mostly, flawlessly executed. Soup is usually a good indicator of the quality of a kitchen and the two our group tried were beyond excellent. Two small quibbles...the best lake view tables were in the smoking section. We felt non smokers were more deserving. And the vegetables over which my fish was served were way over cooked and heavy with olive oil or butter.
Don't try to walk here from Velden proper...too hilly and far.

A secret hiding pace is an understatement. Kilometres up from Osiachersee, this is a magical little hut which offers fantastic local cuisine. All food is hand made of local ingredients and offer a limited menu yet amazing food. The variety of Kasenudln on offer is many and all are amazing. I took a local here who did not even know about it.

Gerlitzen Gipfelhaus offers a few room to stay in overnight plus it has a large restaurant. It's situated right at the top of the mountain at over 1900 metres. the view from here is simply breathtaking. You can see over Karnten, into Steiermark, through over to Slovenia, then to Italy and upwards to Salzburg. You can even see the summit of Grossglocker. It's an incredible Panorama that is 360 degrees!
Inside, the rooms were basic with shared bathrooms, but I slept well. It was good value too, with half-pension options. The evening meal was good, and breakfast was even better with a nice large selection, plus freshly made eggs of your choice. Being a large self-service style ski gasthof, it did feel a little impersonal, and the bar shut down completely at 9pm. The Gipfelhaus only accepts cash, with no credit cards or bank cards allowed.

Final meal with a group of Viennese friends holidaying on Lake Ossiach. Lovely outdoor eating, faultless attentive waiters, beautifully presented, rich and satisfying dishes. I had fish with roasted tomatoes, the boys had the most classy generous portion of schnitzel and chips I've ever seen, the white wine I had to accompany my main was actually delicious, the whole setting was elegant and it was overall an extremely pleasant experience. Rounded off the evening by wandering to the little graveyard in the music academy then down the street to play crazy golf.
