Good choice. The English language menu needs improved translation. Huge quantity for price. We had a brunch of taramasalata, tomatoes, pickled vegetables, eggs, sausage, tongue in butter, bacon and flatbreads. Eggs came fried, not poached and were over cooked. Took 30 minutes from order to door. Very happy.

Very friendly service and comfortable room. Breakfast was handmade fresh traditional Bulgarian omelette and was tasty. Views over the Pirin Mountains from the hotel balcony were excellent. Would definitely recommend if travelling to Bulgaria for mountaineering or skiing.

This hotel its definitely not a 4 stars hotel. First point- Not enough of food! For example dinner was from 8pm- 10pm. At 8:30pm almost nothing left to eat!!! Empty "silver" trays! They told us about bfast, lunch, dinner but if yiu really wanna eat you have to come in first few minutes to find food. After 30 minutes almost nothing on the plates!!! But no one cares to bring some food for guests! Option all inclusive and we were hungry!!! No desserts! Rude kitchen guy had bad behaviour!!! Only Receptionist was nice. Room didn't look like in 4 stars hotel. Shower didn't have a separate space in Bathroom, i.e. after shower the floor was slippery and dangerous. I will not recomented this hotel!!!! I been in many places in the world but this place its not good at all.

What a fabulous place to stay. We had two apartments as we are a family of 5 booking at the last minute. We booked half board and are so glad we did. Good, home cooked food at ridiculously low prices meant our skiing holiday was excellent value. The rooms and communal areas were spacious, warm and spotlessly clean and staff were friendly and welcoming. Beds were very comfortable and showers were clean with plenty of hot water. There were board games available for entertainment at the table. Kids loved the pool before dinner; jacuzzi wasn’t available, or fitness room due to Covid. The hotel is in a perfect position within stumbling distance to the gondola and all the bars and restaurants. Prices for food and drink close to the gondola are far more than at the hotel - £40 for 5 Subway sandwiches compared to around £2-4 for a meal at the hotel! I’m sure if you were looking for small imperfections you could find them, but focusing on what is important to us, everything was spot on and we had a fantastic holiday. The only reason I can think of for people writing less favourable reviews is to keep this gem to themselves!

Location is very good - clase to the gondola and main attractions, but not on the main boulevard, so it was quiet. Very clean, small kitchenette equiped with everything you need, towels for shower and hot water at discretion. Great value for money, we had a good time here.

I stayed at the hotel in mid-April. The staff and their supervisor were very helpful and willing to assist you for any request (special thanks to Mr. Lâchezar Parapunov). Room upgrade was provided according to their availability. A great value for money choice, and one of the best, if not the best 5 star hotel I have been to in Bulgaria.

With the beginning of the new millennium Despot Slav Hotel start working in the ancient Bulgarian town of Melnik. Gritty towers and pyramids eroded in fantastic shapes, modeled by the wind surround the town in all directions. Its name originates from them, 'mel' means a sandstone.
Stayed there with my wife. The hotel is very cozy. The architecture is traditional for the region. The rooms are spotless and big enough. Breakfast was amazing and really tasty. Dinner was great and the service was fantastic. Parking was also provided free of charge. We are definitely coming back.

We stayed for 3 nights in March. It was lovely, quiet and tranquil. The room was spacious and clean. There are soap and 3in1 shower gel dispensers in the bathroom + hairdryer. There was coffee, tea and water restocked every day! They offered robes and slippers which was nice! The parking is close to the reception and behind it there is a wine cellar. Breakfast was lovely! You get to chose from 10 breakfast options and everything we’ve tried was tasty! Restaurant food was fresh and tasty! Homemade and nicely presented! We really enjoyed the chilled music in the restaurant. It really set the mood! The staff was very polite and greeted us everywhere they see us. The brunette waitress (sorry don’t know the name) was supper attentive, friendly and nice! We hope she’ll be recognised and given as example! The pond is large and has many fishing spots with absolutely all you need - table, chairs, bin, camp fire setting, etc. **Only downside was that they don’t offer fishing rods to rent and we couldn’t bring our own on this trip… There is an area for tennis, soccer, basketball, mini golf, table tennis and oversized chess board. **It would have been nice if there was equipment available to rent, so we could play.(more prepared guests brought their own) The chess figures were sadly broken, but I’m sure they’ll be fixed as maintenance work was constantly done. The surrounding is beautiful with lots of trees and a lovely view of the mountain. The individual houses looked really nice and they were set at a good distance so that you can get a private feel. We might try them next time. The SPA&Relax zones were great! The indoor pool is heated, steam bath and sauna were nice as well. What we liked in particular was the relax zone, which is exactly like in the photos - nicely decorated, warm, quiet, with tea, water, fruits and sweats. There were also magazines and books. We have read some the first day and noticed that they were replaced with new ones the next day which was a lovely touch! They offered bikes for rent, which looked brand new. We didn’t try them as we wanted to just take it easy. It’s on the to-do list for next time. As we were there they were adding tiles to the outdoor BBQ area and overall we’ve noticed that there were people cleaning and maintaining the areas, which was nice! We were super lucky as there were not many guests (probably due to the time of the year, but I’d mention that there was a lady in the relax zone which left her rubbish on the table and we’ve picked up after her… It’s a shame some people don’t appreciate the efforts that the hotel has put in and feel that someone must constantly clean after them. To that lady and all other guests - please don’t leave your manners at home and use the trash bins provided.) This is probably the reason why there was no equipment for rent, which is a shame. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay and were sad to go! It would be a pleasure to visit the hotel again! Thank you for everything and we wish you all the best!
