Things to do in Haro
The golden rule when looking for somewhere to eat is to avoid the main square and look for somewhere busy with locals, preferably situated in the minor streets. We broke the golden rule because my friend was desperate, for some bizarre reason, for a hamburger. The bar was not busy and situated in the main square with a pleasing view of the bandstand. The service was sullen. You want food? Come back at eight.....we came back at eight....too early, come back at eight thirty! We went to order at eight thirty and we dismissed for the waiter to eventually come and take our choices at the table. The agua con gas was more expensive than a glass of Rioja Crianza or a beer.I ordered patatas bravas and rabas to share. A portion of fried cubed potatoes arrived, with a poor, barely spiced tomato based sauce and an aoli, mostly cloyingly sweet mayonnaise with hardly any discernible garlic flavour, which was the sauce on the menu for the squid. No squid arrived and when we called the waiter over he explained that the rabas/squid clearly indicate on both Spanish and English versions of the menu, as well as painted in foot high letters on the wall menu was a "Saturday only" dish. I still don't know why he wrote the order down.My friend's burger was ok. But when I am in Spain I want to eat Spanish food. I realise deep fried, probably battered, squid rings are not exactly regional, but in the absence of white beans or patatas Riojana, my choice was at least a Basque favourite. The food didn't actually make me ill. But that's the best I can say about the place. I took a long hard look at myself in the mirror and gave myself some stern words about breaking the golden rule.
The gastronomy of Tondon Restaurant represents a modern kitchen, characterized by contrasts. We emphasize tradition through innovation. This identity is reflected through local products and all the knowledge of the area from our local producers. Tondon Re
This restaurant is in the most beautiful setting, and perhaps even that alone warrants a minimum of four stars.... But I just could not get past the poor service for dinner, it took the quality of the meal and of the whole experience down for us. The food was certainly good, however after having some great dining experiences at a similar price over the past few days, we expected it to be better. But back to the service. When we were actually served, we felt out of place by the waiter, like she couldnât be bothered with us, and we felt rushed along. There was no care or advice at all. And most of the time, we found it impossible to get the attention of the staff. The experience ended with a very rude handover of our bill and it all just made me feel disappointed. Note: We returned the next morning for breakfast (included with our hotel room) and were very happy. Service was slow but at least polite and food was delightful.

A very affordable wine bar offering a selection of local wines at typically low/reasonable prices (â¬2-6) and some very tasty pintxos and raciones. Staff helpful too.

It is right on the Plaza by the Fountain. Extremely popular with locals on Saturday afternoon. Wine measure seemed a little small compared with some. Good tapas however. Made for a pleasant stop.
