Gamlitz (Slovene: Gomilnica) is a municipality in the district of Leibnitz in Styria, Austria. In the first known document that mentions it (dated from 1145), the settlement is called Gomilnitz, a reference either to the Slavic gomilca which denotes a small hill, or to gom (a group or chain of hills); indeed Gamlitz is situated among and between rolling hills. The tradition of the local castle goes back to the year 1111.

We were a group of 26 people travelling by bus, the Germuth family opened especially for us on a Tuesday evening. This Buschenschank is located right in the middle of partly steep hills (which is not perfect for growing grapes, well, not for the harvest ;-)), we arrived just in the middle of sundown - perfect vibes! The Buschenschank is small but delicate, the wine is good (normally I do NOT drink alcohol but I had to try) but the food they offer is just excellent - including the sweets and the liquor afterwards!100% chance for coming back!!!Quick and very friendly staff - thumbs up!Vielen lieben Dank!

We ate here when staying in a local apartment. We really enjoyed the evening with some good food and an opportunity to taste their excellent wines, including the Sammlung 88 which was new to me. I returned on a number of occasions to buy wine but always found them closed. So best take the opportunity when you can.

We were staying in a local Gasthaus, and this place was a 15 min walk. No brainer? On arrival, we realised this place had stunning views of the valley, and could understand why it was constructed where it was. However, we were terribly confused as to whether it was open. On entry we found tables at the rear of the building, on the terrace overlooking the valley. OK start. Waitress really wasn't welcoming, and only a couple of tables were occupied. Service was barely existent, as was a smile. The menu is pricey compared to other "buschenschanks" in the area, and the food is served on fine white as opposed to traditional platters. Food was reasonable, but nothing great, nor terribly plentiful. Finding the waitress to order another drink would have been time consuming, so we opted for settling the bill instead. We have since discovered that this restaurant is not open to the public on Saturdays, due to demand for Weddings. Perhaps they should just concentrate solely on this, as nobody appears to be disappointed with Wedding functions. As for eating traditionally and getting a feel for the area, find somewhere else. Schilhan has been constructed more for style than substance, and doesn't reflect the architecture of the region, and friendliness and service can be found in abundance elswehere. Terribly disappointing.

After a wonderful day in the vineyards of Styria, we had worked up an appetite and stopped here for dinner. It was great!Ordered an array of platters covering cheeses, sausage, various meats, vegetables, spreads and wonderful breads. It was a delightful meal and was coupled with awesome Austrian wines. Finished it off with some fine Austrian pastries.Ate outside at a big table and the weather was awesome and the scenery amazing.Had excellent service from the moment we entered. Excellent Austrian food!

Me and my wife came here for the day in the sun, eat the standard brettlejaus and sampled the wine as always. The waitress was very attentive and was very quick to deliver the food when it was ready. The restaurant was so full that the food took so long to come but also this could be a reflection on the kitchen itself. From what I could tell myself it was a pleasant balance. The food was perfectly acceptable. The main highlight for me was the red wines from the vineyard, the zweigelt had such a nice body and texture I bought a bottle for the coming winter.Worthwhile to visit if just for the wine tasting.

This place has it all. Many restaurants in the area have great views but what makes this one different is the looooong menu (seriously, this is the larges menu we have seen in a restaurant of this type) and fantastic selection. The prices are higher than the usual average but it is worth it. We had meat mixed platter and gelly of chantirels (muschrooms) plus desert (chestnut tiramisu). All delicious and big. As plus, they have changing tables and even kid´s toilet seat!Note: this is traditional buschenschank - ie. type of restaurant that does not service hot food. You don´t even get coffee here!Look forward to coming back in summer. The terrace looked inviting.
