We took the advice of Tripadvisor for our lunch here. it was described as a wine bar and brasserie with some fusion overtones and it was certainly all these things. The space is small and intimate and atmosphere is cosy. Our meals both began with delicious crispy shrimp wrapped in phyllo, and served with an Asian spicy sweet sauce. For my main course, I tried the special grilled Scottish salmon with soy sauce and honey, perfectly cooked, with grilled winter vegetables. My husband had the 'joues de boeuf Parmentier', a luscious beef stew cooked in Burgundy and topped with mashed potatoes. Desserts lived up to the rest of the meal--grilled pineapple with a verveine syrup and pistachio financiers was fresh and exquisite, and the apple crumble rich and traditional.

I've eaten at Chai Laurent three times. I plan on make it a weekly affair. Laurent balances the flavors, textures and ingredients like a maestro. Everything I've has been good, from marinated gambas, to delicately (and not overwhelmingly) rose-infused raspberry mascarpone tiramisu (the perfect summer dessert) and my favorite soft chèvre tartine with his green salad. I like Chai Laurent for the quality, courtesy, attention to detail. It's like an oasis of good food in a Chartrain desert of mediocre tourist-trap eats.

We ate at 7.30 when there were only two others in the restaurant. Four more appeared during our stay there. Sadly, they had run out of scallops. Two had pate de fois gras for starters, one gravadlax and one bone marrow. For mains two of us shared the beef which we asked for âbleuâ though on reflection, a pointe would have been better. One had the duck and the fourth chose the fish of the day (merlot). The accompanying vegetables were a little sparse and lacklustre but the sole waiter was efficient and charming. He put us onto a cheaper and nicer white wine (Reuilly rather than Chablis) and generally looked after us well. Only one of us had any dessert, the bits and pieces which make up âgourmet coffee â while the others just had a cup. We had red wine and sparkling water as well as the white and the bill came to 233 euros.Bonjour Madame, we would like to thank you for sharing your experience in our restaurant. We took acknowledge of your improvment suggestions, and will pay attention to it in the future. Thanks again for this nice reward.Kind regards,Pierre GAZEAU - Deputy Manager
