The reviews for this establishment are very misleading. My partner and I visited off the back of the positive reviews that itâs had. I pre-booked a table prior to attending but there was absolutely no need, the bar and restaurant were both empty. I found the quality and presentation very average. The meat was a poor cut, the mushrooms were cooked in butter which was disgusting and the onion rings were coated a huge clump of greasy batter. Donât expect great things. Wonât be returning.

I popped here with a large party of 10 women. We all had different orders and arrived at once. Service was quick and friendly and food tasted fantastic. I ordered the full welsh breakfast and they changed the black pudding for a hash brown. Really filling and great value.Highly recommended.

Went with my wifr for a meal as we were staying locally for a few days. We got there early, before it openend and had a wander around the village. WHen we got back we sat on the patio with our dog and ordered our food. I had Grilled Chicken, my wife had the pie (Chicken Ham & Leek). Food was lovely, the service excellent. We were the only customers but so often that is when service falls down, not here. They were very good. Not the cheapest place we went to but certainly worth the money

The Castell-y-Bwch is a traditional family run pub offering good bar food at reasonable prices. we also pride ourselves on our choice of real ales changed weekly. this pub is a little gem far from the jungle of supper pubs. log fires, beams and a lot more
Staff were very rude and abrupt from arrival to finish. The tables were not wiped down properly and the plates were unusually small, making it difficult to even cut the meats. The Sunday lunch itself was extremely underwhelming. Such a shame as the place seemed like it had so much potential from the outside. Would not recommend!Martha 1 review ? In your entire life ??!!! I don't believe for one second that you are a genuine customer, Sunday was a fantastic day we achieved 140 covers with NO complaints, all our staff are happy and helpful, kind regards Beverley.

Enjoy award winning dining at our 17th century coaching inn situated in the village of New Inn. Locally sourced produce with the warmest of Welsh welcomes.
We dropped in by chance while were in Pontypool. The Lower New Inn is an old coaching inn that has now become a gastropub. We received a warm welcome and had an excellent lunch - steak and chips/ veggie lasagne/ crumble and custard - all very tasty and well-presented. About £30 for two courses, drinks and coffee at the end. The restaurant was full of local people at lunchtime - always a good sign.
