Spending a week in Sugar Land, which has a very large Vietnamese-American community, so I decided to try some pho joints, starting with the one that had the highest TA rating. I concur with others that this is very good pho. One tip-off is that the pho should come with a side dish of bean sprouts, hot peppers, and herbs. If the herbs merely consist of cilantro, hmmm, not so good. If they include one or more obscure Vietnamese herbs with incredibly complex flavours, that significantly improves their pho. The menu at Pho Ben indicated that you get sprouts and cilantro, but in actuality the side dish had lots of a flavourful Asian herb, in addition to the cilantro, and had two lime wedges that were each about one-quarter of a lime: so you get to squeeze in plenty of lime juice as well. See the Herb Plate photo: the photo shows both the pho bowl and herbs, but the herbs are the impressive part. The other noteworthy plus was that they did not stint on the beef; there was plenty of it in the bowl. The total cost of the dinner was under $8. I'll enjoy comparing this to other Vietnamese restaurants here, but I probably will swing around to Pho Ben at least one more time to try their Bahn Mi. Lots of parking, and a relatively convenient central location. I definitely recommend: it would be a good lunch stop if you were heading down I-69 between Victoria and Houston.

A couple friend invited us for lunch. Perhaps I am not the best to rate this restaurant as I am not keen to try anything that doesnât look appetizing. Other than a few items in the buffet bar, I didnât find anything delicious. I didnât want to disappoint my friends but just didnât enjoy...

Noticed this new little place late 2014 and vowed I would check it out one of these days. Well the wind turned cold today so I decided it was time to warm myself up with some good Vietnamese soups.Ordered the (E3) Beef Eye of Round Steak Noodle soup, and an order (A2) of Spring Rolls; my dining companion ordered the (D2) Chargrilled Chicken Vermicelli bowl.We both thoroughly enjoyed the Spring Rolls and the peanut sauce. Pho Tan Mai includes a bit of the Sriracha hot sauce which adds just a bit of heat and quite some flavor to the spring rolls. My Beef Noodle soup was quite good and wonderfully warming on a cold night. My only suggestion would be that I would prefer a greater selection of the herbs and leaf vegetables to add to the soup. The offering was mostly bean sprouts, lime wedges, and a green leafy vegetable. My friend was very pleased with the Chicken Vermicelli bowl and commented that she would be back again. She always gets the Vermicelli bowl when we go to Vietnamese restaurants, so I think she is a bit of an expert there. My only suggestion is that we had to go to the counter to 'ask' for our bill, as it was not presented to us at the table. Perhaps this is a custom in Vietnamese culture similar to restaurants in Mexico; idk?? However other Vietnamese places I have dined have brought the bill to the table after I have finished.I will go back again so that must say something, right??
