I remember the first time that I ever walked into Thai Satay BBQ. My sweetie was raving and raving about it but I had some serious reservations. The inside was not fancy and even a bit run down. There is even a drive-through pick-up window that made me think this was more of an oriental fast-food place than a true Thai restaurant. Having been friends for many years with a Thai gentleman who's family runs some of the best restaurants featuring that cuisine out in the Hollywood and Westwood areas, I was not expecting very much. Wow, was I ever wrong!Thai Satay BBQ is such a wonderful experience for the taste buds that I, for once, can't really come up with the proper adjectives to describe it (although I'll try my best). This is not a place where they use just a handful of sauces and seasonings over and over again and it is most certainly not just a barbecue place. Each dish I have ever tried here (and that's a lot!) has its own unique flavoring and I have yet to have one that I disliked. Even better is how the food is consistent on every visit regardless of the time one visits or whether one dines inside or gets everything to go (and I have been going here regularly now for over three years). The consistency also goes for the level of spiciness requested for the more fiery dishes. If you ask for "medium," it will always give you the same level of burn. I personally find medium or a bit higher to be just right, but those with more sensitive palates and stomachs might want to start out with "low" on the first visit (especially since I am one that likes lots of heat and has a long history eating homemade Thai food supplied by my friend from Bangkok).Just to highlight a very few of the dishes that I have enjoyed here...the shrimp rolls off of the appetizer menu are always a must for every visit. They are thin and crispy with small, high-quality shrimp inside and come with an amazing, lightly spiced sauce for dipping. All of the soups are amazing but I especially recommend the Tom Kha Kai (chicken coconut milk soup) and Tom Yum Kai (hot and sour chicken soup with lemon grass). On noodle dishes, their Pad Thai and Pad Kee Mowl are excellent. I am also a huge fan of the garlic and black pepper dish with your choice of meat (I usually get pork which is very lean and tender, but no meat choice here is bad -- it's all top-notch and fresh). My most favorite dish is the Paradise Pineapple Curry which I always get with their great shrimp. I have had this dish in many other Thai restaurants but nobody makes it as good as these people do...just absolutely wonderful flavors no matter what spice level is chosen for it.I could literally go on and on and then top it all off with one of their great Thai Iced Teas. When dining in, you very soon forget that you are in a fairly plain restaurant in a shopping center that has seen better days...although the restaurant is located in a smaller building closer to Foothill Boulevard (Old US Route 66) that is separate from the main center. The service is always very friendly and extremely competent. They can get a little busy at times because the seating area is small and they get a lot of large to go orders. However, any extra wait for the small staff to get back to the table is always worth it. They will give you anything you want and I have seen them show great patience with other customers that have lots of questions due to their unfamiliarity with Thai cuisine. When getting an order to go, there is never any worry about things flying all over your car (especially when getting varied items like soups and drinks that can easily tip over and spill). They always have sturdy boxes available and one can tell immediately that they have had years of experience in putting everything together in the best manner possible so it all gets to your destination in one piece through the Inland Empire's less than courteous drivers. Before I end this gushing but well-deserved review, I do want to add that my "cost per person" number is a very rough estimate. My habit when ordering from any oriental restaurant is to get three or four main dishes plus some fried rice, an appetizer, and a drink. Especially at Thai Satay BBQ, there is no way two people will finish all of that, so getting "to go" boxes is always in the plan. Most main dishes now run between $5.95 and $7.95 (do know that the local online menu website has an older version of their prices which are now out of date). Special combos can be had for $5.95 (not including a drink) and the barbecue ribs head up into the $11 range (obviously, these could change from when I have written this as time passes, so don't etch those numbers completely in stone).Thai Satay BBQ is not fancy nor is it glamorous. However, your mouth will feel otherwise when you taste their food. A rating of five is not enough for them.

We ate here in a family group of six on an early Sunday afternoon. We were warmly greeted and seated immediately. The menu has a wide variety of traditional Thai dishes that all looked very good. We had the fish rice soup, which was new for me, but I would definitely order it again. My wife had the Musaman (yellow curry) chicken. She ordered it not spicy, and they were able to keep the flavor and remove the spice. Other recommended dishes are the cashew chicken, fresh spring rolls, and sizzling duck. We all shared Thai donuts along with sticky rice and mango for desert.

If you have to bring food for a potluck and don't feel like the hassle yourself... look no further. Srida Thai Cuisine is très magnifique! Great service and serene interiors if you should decide to eat at their location. Located on Central Ave. right before Foothill Blvd. in an old strip mall but don't let that deter you from trying them out. Thai Iced Tea is delicious, the Eggrolls 'da bomb and all of their noodle dishes are savory and delicately prepared by order for you.
