Lovely casual Asian dining with excellent friendly service. We had the chef's menu which effectively contained all the dishes recommended by our waiter. It was wonderful and contained some counter intuitive selections we would not ordinarily make; Asian potato salad as a main?Will definitely return.

For a 5:30pm reservation with the restaurant 25% occupied it is strange that we had to have the fixed banquet, which was hardly inspiring, nor worth the money- due to staff that came and went without notice (4 different drinks staff in over the course of 90 mins), and food that was seemed like it was prepared en-mass. Dessert was a small sliver of chocolate cake with shavings of coconut served in a small bowl with a spoon as garnish. Really? To rub fish sauce into the wound, 10% compulsory tip added to the final bill, and when ordering $100 bottles of wine, that seems a little steep. Won't recommend as Melbourne CBD has much much better options.Thank you for your feedback. We are disappointed to read your review. We do disclose that there is a 10% discretionary service charge added to the bill for all large group bookings when making a booking online or over the phone. This is also mentioned on our confirmation emails sent to all guests before arriving. What an unexpected treat!I stumbled across this place for lunch whilst in the city visiting an art installation. My local friend joined me and said sheâd been trying to dine there for ages (no bookings for evenings).Chose the banquet and where left well beyond full. The smoked chicken salad is to die for. Cocktails are a winner with daily specials and an exquisite Vietnamese inspired take on the classic espresso martini.Looking forward to revisiting soon.

Exceptional food and staff...could not fault this restaurant. Great value with their $65 deal for two people with meals that kept all the taste buds firing. Would highly recommend if you are doing a night out at the theatre or even just a nice dinner out.

I wrote a review on this restaurant when newly opened. It was very good then and the quality and value is still exceptional. We have dined here a number of times over the past two years..food always fresh and well presented. Staff are efficient and friendly. Only issue might be the noise in the room, but the numbers of diners reflects it's popularity. Still a gem of a place in Preston.

Went for the first time with a friend whoâs a regular, shared a couple of dishes. Squid was the most delicious Iâve ever eaten -melt in your mouth with a coating that didnât overwhelm the taste of the meat. Noodles were really good too - light and fresh. Perfect meal, will be going back soon.

Good choices on menu. Staff helpful and efficient. Husband loved his crispy pork. My stir fry was fine although tasted of too much pepper. Veggies on dishes super fresh and well prepared. Fair prices on menu and wine list. Decor is dated but seems a popular place. Will be going back.

Absolutely love visiting Som Tam. The food is always delicious and great portions and if you canât finish theyâll provide you with a take home container. Itâs very affordable too!Service is amazing and the restaurant has a cosy atmosphere. Must visit if in thornbury.
