I went to lunch at Ha Long Bay (recently re-opened after a car had plowed through front corner of restaurant, necessitating months of repair work) with a friend. As usual, the place was packed, with a 45-minute wait for a table on a Saturday afternoon. But it was well worth the wait! Our waitstaff was courteous, knowledgeable and friendly without being overly or under attentive. We enjoyed hot green tea with an appetizer of spring rolls stuffed with egg roll. These were good but not as good as we remembered from a previous trip. My dining companion opted for Squash curry with Duck, while I opted for a Vietnamese specialty (VE 6) which include tofu and a number of veggies (broccoli, red pepper, green pepper, onion) with medium seasoning. The entrees were delicious! I had enough to box up and bring home for the next day's lunch. All of the ingredients were fresh and tasty and as someone who is highly allergic to MSG, I think I can safely say that they do not use it as neither dish caused a reaction on my part. We'll certainly go again, although we may try mid-afternoon on a weekday.

I asked the waitress what was best and she recommended the 3 mushrooms dish with beef. Well... the meat was tough and not a great grade, didnât care at all for the white onions in the dish and the sauce? Sort of middling. Not sweet, not salty, not even especially flavorful. Iâd keep looking.

We had some food delivered yesterday from Monsoon as we were craving Thai food. Having been recently in Thailand, I must admit that we set our expectations high when it comes to Thai food. We ordered a couple of dishes, including the infamous Khao Soi, Papaya salad and Pad Pik Pow. We found Khao Soi to be very different from the ones we had before as it was very sweet and the sauce was thick. On the other hand we like that it came with some of the usual complements. The papaya salad was tasteless and lacked the spices that it should have. We foundPad Pik Pow OK, nothing special. To sum up we found the food OKish given the local fare.

We had the amazing opportunity to spend a couple of weeks in Thailand last spring, and I've been craving authentic Thai food since we've returned. I've had some ok food in other places, but THIS was the place that made us feel like we were back in Thailand! It's a funky, cozy little place; the restaurant was not overly busy, but the carry-out business was brisk. Service was a little slow, but that was ok as we were in no hurry. We would recommend everything we tried - spring roll with plum sauce, Tom Yum soup, stir fry, and shrimp curry. Beer (Singha, Chang, and Tiger! $3.50 each!) and wine were available. It's also cash only. The only regret was that we didn't have room for mango and sticky rice - next time! I will be back - soon!
