Things to do in Kalibo
we have been to this fine dining resto several times the past two months, the waiter now recognizes us. it is one of the new dining places in Kalibo which is ideal for family and even business meet ups. It is clean, with free wifi, good food and reasonable price range. You can choose to dine inside the airconditioned area or the kubo (bamboo houses) at the back. their crispy pata is good, and so with the garden salads (although quite pricey for me). the chow fan is a favorite. one serving can feed at least three diners. one time we had Tom Yum Goong. I was disappointed though. Small shrimps, with carrots (something i dont see in other Tom Yum servings), no lime leaves, thin slices of squid. Wont order Tom Yum the next time. Another favorite is the korean beef stew. Tastes like Beef pares, with its ever tender beef. The lobby is decorated with Christmas trimmings and a giant Christmas tree adorns the center. Ideal for photo ops. The rest room just needs constant clean up and replenishment of tissue paper. The times we were there, the rest room in the main hall looked like it has not been attended to. Used tissue overflowing... the rest room at the back portion is clean though. all in all, it is a good place to bring your visitors. Good food and very comfortable dining areas.
I spend a fair few months each year in Aklan and sadly the local cuisine just does not do it for me. Kalibo whilst still a small town if compared to say Davao or Manila is a point of interest due to the Ati-Atihan festival that draws substantial tourist to the region during the month of January, Kalibo is also a gateway to Boracay and I hear time and time again that finding quality food for travellers is difficult. Sen Lek Thai Noodle opened recently and thankfully they have brought authentic Thai cafe food to the town. The restaurant is located just off of the main square close to Kalibo Cathedral, I would say it would take about 15 minutes to travel here in a tricycle from the Airport and is only a few minutes away from the Caticlan shuttle bus pick up in the main town. The restaurant is modern with a nice indoor seating area with AirCon plus a smaller section at the front if you wish to sit outside, service is good and the food is prepared fresh. The menu is simple and very similar to a typical cafe that you would find in Thailand with Khao Pad Gai (Chicken fried rice) and Pad Thai noodles being a staple, there is also Veggie options offered which is very refreshing. A typical Chicken Fried rice or Pad Thai noodles will cost around P150 which is why I would now say this place is probably the best value to quality food anywhere within Kalibo. As a family we have eaten here a number of times already and the quality is consistent. They do offer takeaway and this comes in proper containers with cutlery, I only mention this as I have had some real head shaking moments attempting to get takeaway food in Kalibo. The only draw back is that it closes at 9pm, this is very similar to most of Kalibo as the whole town tends to be quite regarding food options from about 8pm, I say that in regards to Gaisano mall etc etc. So all in if you are travelling through Kalibo and wish to sample quality food at unbeatable prices then this is the place.
