Taste of Thai

We love Thai food. My husband lived in Thailand so he knows what’s true Thai food and what’s not. This place is authentic Thai. Unbelievable delicious. Excellent service from the staff. The mango and sweet rice desert was to die for. I have tofu pad Thai and it was amazing. I highly recommend this place for a night out or a lunch date. Atmosphere is great and you’ll love the food!

Chandara Thai

Open just a few months ago, as of my writing; I've ventured in for lunch three times over the past couple weeks. The interior is warm and modern without the faux Asian theme overused so often. The dark wooden floor, classic wood chairs, some upholstered, along with booth seating fill the room with a harmonious design throughout. There is a small bar with high-backed chairs, and a decorative contemporary minimalist treatment on the wall enhances the back corner. It's a cozy environment. The menu is divided into categories, as you might expect, seafood, pan-fried noodles, rice, salads, curries, and specialties. Many entrees are served at lower pricing and apparent smaller portions on the Lunch Menu for under ten dollars. Lunch also comes with a small salad of iceberg and a sweet drizzle of dressing. The one confusing thing I found is that the 'choice of meat' listed for many items only includes pork, chicken, or tofu. If you select beef or shrimp, or other seafood it's an additional $2.00 charge. That being stated, the overall value is good, and the quality of the food is well worth their reasonable pricing. Tables have no condiments, which I think is trending these days as more chefs and foodies want what comes out of the kitchen to be prepared just as one expects, or the chef intends. If you ask, a small plate of sauces, soy, and additional spice enhancements are offered. The menu indicated some 'heat' or spice levels, but from my visits, the mild is too bland, so I would suggest the medium heat unless your server has other input. Chopsticks also will need to be requested as they are not a standard item on the table setting. My main issue, with three visits, is a concern about the consistency of service. Two of the three trips were good, with plenty of servers, and a floating busser, or assistant wait person filling drinks, and helping with regular service. Once there was only one person on the floor and wasn't even asked about a drink or how I wanted my dish prepared. They have the possibility of really being great if they keep up with proper staff training. One thing I've noticed about the Grass Valley area is that service generally sucks in more than two-thirds of the local operations. This place can either step up to the challenge or fall into the same trap. Its a curse in many restaurants around the Sierra Foothills, and maybe more prevalent out of the central Sacramento area. Owners don't understand the importance of training servers and having enough staff actually to serve a full dining room, should that happen when you first open. If service standards remain high, I believe Chandara Thai can become an excellent spot for Asian/Thai Cuisine. I loved the food and will become a fairly regular guest. I wish them well.

Thai Kitchen Restaurant

Playing tourist with my visiting 85 year old mother I took her to the Empire Mine. Leaving there a stranger recommended Thai Kitchen among other restaurants as a place to eat. My Mother much to my surprise had never had Thai food before. I'm a real fan of curries so it was easy for me to say yes to checking out the Thai Kitchen. Parking is ample in the back and we were the only ones in the place late that afternoon. We ordered two different curries and each of us were very happy with our choices. Her yellow curry was not too spicy and made a Thai food fan out of her. We both enjoyed the service and pleasant atmosphere.
