Ordered takeaway on a Saturday night, didn’t mind the 1.5hour wait, but when we went to pick up order it hadn’t even been placed, was told at least another 30mins, cancelled order and went elsewhere. DisappointingHi 713darrana,Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. We really appreciate it that you were willing to wait 1.5 hours for your order. The night you ordered was one of the busiest nights of the year and on such nights our waiting time unfortunately does go up that much. It is impossible to open a can of Thai chefs for just a handful of nights, and most of our customers, including you, understand and either accept it or choose to eat elsewhere. On your night we were in a very unfortunately situation where we were dealing with sever staff sickness and we had no choice but to 'promote' one of our most capable kitchen hands to front of house. He had never ever done this before and he did an amazing job. Once the waiting time goes past an hour it becomes really hard to estimate the wait, which I personally know as I do the front of house myself very often. When you turned up to pick up your order the front of house checked in the kitchen and chef was just about to start your order. You were advised it was unfortunately going to be another 15-20 minutes, not 'at least another 30 minutes'.Again, we are most impressed that our new FOH got most of the order timings right, within a margin of ten minutes, which we, and more importantly all our customers that night, found acceptable. Unfortunately your order did take a bit longer than expected and apologise for that. We are disappointed you could not wait another 15-20 minutes and decided to go elsewhere, but we understand and respect your decision. Our apologies once again for the staff sickness, the delay with your order and doing the best we could have done that night. It was either taking the risk of using an inexperienced front of house or closing for the night.

Kum Pun Thai Restaurant & Beer Garden

As parking on the street is at a premium I found a spare park and I’d spotted Kim Pun. I really felt like Thai food as I’d had pasta at an Italian restaurant the night before and Veges were desired.I dined probably 6.45ish as a solo in town on business, the restaurant wasn’t overly busy and when completed my meal, I was the last diner.Service - was prompted and efficient, though the waitresses I had (2) were Asian, they didn’t speak Thai, as I thanked one in Thai and she didn’t react / respond.Speed of receiving meal - was like lightning, like, I’d just got my beer, checking social media and - boom, it’s arrived.Actually, I though it was too quick.I’d ordered fried ginger with chicken and seasonal veggies, presentation was good, the amount of steamed rice was a tad on the light side. However, the meal was bland... their was no condiments on the table.e.g fish sauce, sugar, chillies... so I requested and received some chopped up fresh chillies. At least that gave it some zing.I ordered dessert which was deep fried banana spring rolls and ice cream, these were actually quite good, but they only provided a teaspoon eat it with.As you could imagine, an impossible task, so I took a fork off a neighbouring table. To see other reviews with”best Thai ever” makes you wonder what exposure they’ve had to Thai food....And just for the record, we travel to Thailand on a frequent basis. There are other Thai restaurants in CHCH to try, so I doubt if I’ll return.

We had a lovely meal here. We ordered loads and everything except the Tofu dish (giant chunks of tofu swimming in a sweet chilli looking sauce) was delicious! The yellow curry is amazing, moong dahl fabulous, wok fried greens & pad thai were both excellent. The service was great, we had a really nice young guy serving us and the atmosphere was spot on! Kids were disappointed to receive plastic straws in their drinks (KOS is too classy for plastic straws) and leftovers came in big ol' plastic take away containers :( Without the plastic faux pas we would have given KOS 5 stars.

The first impression was not that great- dingy dirty unloved space, staff did not seem to care too much about trying to upsell drinks. Wont be the bar space one would love to come back. We moved to the table and ordered food. The duck curry was flavoursome and fragrant. We loved it. Prawn dish was tasty but extremely messy to eat. Its a bit of a joke to serve prawns not pilled when you charging top $$$. The coconut ice cream was sublime. I would have it again anytime. We were served/checked on by at least 4 different staff members, who did not seem to communicate with each other and kept asking us the same questions. Overall- we will be back for food.

Visiting from Hamilton and family ordered a takeaway. We love Thai food but found this takeaway to be disappointing. The pad thai tasted stale and the flavors in the sweet and sour and chicken and cashews were strange and nothing like thai we have ever had either in Thailand or NZ. I'd try somewhere else. I don't do negative reviews lightly but this was warranted. Don't bother, I'm sure you could get better food elsewhere.
