We are Japanese owned, fully licensed restaurant, the casual Japanese cuisine located at 51 Victoria Avenue in Central Wanganui. Our menu consists of Appetizers, Bento boxes, Sushi, Sashimi, Pan-fried, Bowls, Ramen, Udon, Japanese Curry with Rice and Dess
We ordered 9 or 10 entree sized dishes. All tasted similar, regardless of the dish, all had the same coleslaw garnish. Our pancake was thin and not cooked in the middle.Service was patchy. We have eaten Japanese cuisine many times, and if the chef hadn't come out to argue about the pancake I would have thought the food was cooked by a western chef. The decor is unchanged from the previous restaurant, apart from a few pictures of Japan, tired and seedy to say the least. We felt that minimal effort is being made here with food and ambience. The staff were busy and seemed unable to give attentive service, not their fault.Hi 65donovan. Sorry for not satisfied with our restaurant. We are locally Japanese ownend CASUAL Japanese restaurant. Your order was all almost the similar Entree menu, so it was the same garnish. We do have variety of set menu, donburi, sushi, bento boxes, ramen sushi and more though...Okonomiyaki is sometimes translated into English as "Pancake". However, this may be misleading. Though it does consist of batter cooked on a griddle, okonomiyaki has nothing of the fluffiness of pancakes. Your Okonomiyaki was well cooked and our chef explained to you, but we didnât charge for it as you were mention not satisfied. We would think about remove 'Pancake' from the menu. The decor is changed from the previous big orange cafe. Now it has been cleaned, painted, and displayed photos of traditional Japan. We are keeping to change from the previous cafe. I'm sorry if you donât like our atmosphere but we donât know how great decoration expecting. We will do our best to make Momiji restaurant even better.Thank you for your feedback, and thank you for your visiting.RegardsOwner chef
I popped in for a quick sushi fix last week and as always I wasn't disappointed. Everything is clean and fresh and beautifully laid out. The service is personal and warm. And nothing is too much trouble - want something not in the cabinet and they'll sort you some on the spot. Highly recommended.

After a nice stroll around Whanganui. We were craving Sushi. We passed a place further down that was really busy and headed up here.It was a very nice experience. Pleasantly priced and very fresh. Will be back next time we visit.

Authentic Japanese dishes with wonderful, complex flavors, prepared to perfection! Our waitress was a delight and we loved the ambiance. Our dinner experience here could not have been better!
