It's difficult when a beloved place changes owners - it could infuse new life in a place or take it down. Unfortunately, the new owners of Miyabi seem to be new to the restaurant business and are committing some serious newbie mistakes - like placing orders for themselves ahead of customer orders and not scheduling enough staff. Both of these sins are bad because they directly hurt the customer experience...At this writing, the food is still very good. The original heads of the kitchen and sushi bar are still with the restaurant. The question is - for how long? The disorganization of the new ownership may mean a loss of the cooking talent. I dread the day I walk in here and don't see the regular sushi chef behind the counter anymore.For these reasons I can no longer give an unreserved recommendation of Tacoma Miyabi. But please note: Seattle and South Center Miyabi locations are still owned by Masa-san.

Mandolin has good food and probably overly generous portions. The chicken was tender and delicious and stacked almost three inches high. The mountain of fried rice had a bit of a smoky sweet taste to it and the way-better-than-average side of salad that came with the meals included shreds of carrot, and slices of cucumber and radish. A mix of iceberg and green lettuce made for a healthy crunch too.

Sushido is okay...a very ersatz Japanese cuisine experience....which is to say that from top to bottom most of the people who work here don't know Japanese food. We've eaten here several times and had to explain what we're ordering to many members of the staff....they're nice though, and tend to admit when they don't know something. The biggest problem occurs when they misunderstand the order and bring something totally wrong.Prices are decent. They have a nice lunch special menu - one option is 2 rolls for $13. The lunch teriyaki is well under $10 and tasty. Advanced sushi nigiri and sashimi, and traditional dishes, is where they fall down.Korean-owned, I wish the nice family that runs this place would have brought Korean food - bi bim bap or bbq or tofu soups here instead.

I ate lunch here and had an okay experience. The quantities are large and the prices are reasonable. The food was a little bland however. This was okay but there are better teriyaki restaurants in Tacoma.

The food is fantastic. Really enjoy the sesame chicken and Mongolian beef. We go a couple time a month and are always happy. Waitresses are always happy to see us and always give my ten year old a hug and say how big he is getting. We really enjoy this place. I had them cater a party for me and for $250 bucks I had an awesome spread that fed 25 people and everyone loved the food. The owners came out and gave me a hug and thanked me. Even the husband/cook gave me an awkward hug. They can get really busy during dinner, especially with the take out orders. The seating is limited, but they will get your food out to rather quickly even at their busiest. the cooks are real pros.

My wife and I visited this restaurant twice over the past month. The first time we were with a large group and experienced the hibachi dinner. It was quite good. I had salmon and vegetables. When we returned, my wife and I sat at the bar and had some fantastic sushi. The fish there is extremely fresh and the sushi chefs are quite skilled. We will return --- often. Very good clean place with perfect service. You can't help but love this place.Thank you James for your review!
