We had heard about Kamekizushi as being the best sushi restaurant in Japan, so before leaving home I tracked it down on Google Earth, found a link to the restaurant's Japanese website and printed off the menu which we took with us. Also went into Google streetview and printed off the external view of the restaurant. It had a car park holding seven cars which I noted because we were going to be travelling by car.I got my Tokyo daughter in law to make a booking there for us a couple of months in advance just in case. When driving we spotted the restaurant easily from the external view and did a Uturn and parked in their carpark. Walking in to a tumultuous welcome from the staff, we were greeted by the lady on the front desk who asked âMunro-San?â How good was that! They had recorded our booking for us several months beforehand. The restaurant looked nearly brand new, so donât know whether it was a rebuild of an old restaurant or not. There was a massive timber bar along one side of the restaurant that was populated by several very professional looking sushi chefs ready to do business.Shown to a seat at the bar, we produced the menu that I had downloaded off their website and pointed to the sashimi set at 3000Y each. Clear soup was served for starters and because we had ordered beer they also served an appetiser made from tuna, ginger, pepper and sake. Just yummy! The sushi chef was great and looked after us well and we struck up a little rapport. He told us the names of some of the sashimi as we ate. Bonito, otoro, anago, prawns brain, salmon, crab and prawn. He told us that the yellow sea urchin that came in sets in little wooden boxes came from Hokkaido and was the best you could get. I had always been wary of sea urchin but the taste was great. Beautiful food, beautiful restaurant, wonderful staff. We discovered that, as other guests arrived and left, the enthusiastic welcomes and departures were for everyone! We got one of the staff to take a picture of us with our sushi chef! And we got a rousing cheer when we left! Now thatâs a feel-good dining experience that youâd never forget.

I wanted to give our love for this small restaurant because many of the reviews are by Japanese (this alone should tell you something) in Japanese. Located as a stand alone building with small parking lot near the water. Take your shoes off before sitting (tatami or counter seating). Friendly service. Fresh sashimi from a fishing port town that you would expect. Excellent presentation with cucumbers cut to resemble small trees. If you make the effort to find this place and love sushi you wonât be disappointed!

Best Sushi on Earth, from the point of view of a spanish guy... It is highly recommended and one must be early enough to find a place. Sitting at the bar is a spectacle. I was there in 2010 and I still remember.
