I am almost always skeptical of restaurants that serve a number of different types of cuisine, so when I saw that the menu had Japanese, sushi, Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese, I was once again skeptical. There were four of us in our party and we all ordered something different -- sushi, Chinese beef, Thai curry and tempura. To my great surprise, all of it was tasty, fresh and well cooked. The service is friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere pleasant. I would highly recommend braving the strip mall location and going here for a nice Asian feast.

We were staying at the Beach Club and decided to celebrate our Anniversary at the Cost Restaurant. We had a 6:30 reservation. We were seated shortly after arriving. While waiting to be seated I noticed how loud several. small children were. Others were running and playing. Little did I know that it would get much worse. We were seated by the aquarium. Big mistake. Children ran around the aquarium screaming and looking at the fish. One child was climbing on it and a large wood panel came off and flew across the room. We ordered sushi that was ok(nori was difficult to chew). We ordered RubyMadness Martini. It was very good but our glasses were only half full. More children behind me getting very excited about finding Dory. The aquarium is about 4 feet from my chair. We had salad and appetizers. We enjoyed both. However the noise level got louder. We ordered our entires. A 3or 4 year old child went onto the balcony by himself. Dinners on the balcony stopped eating and kept him safe. Then we had frantic parents and grandparents running around looking for him. I told them he was on the balcony. Our entries arrived,we both ordered fish dishes and both were very good. We finished about half and my husband couldn’t take all the action and got up to find our server to pay so we could leave. We normally would have had desert and after dinner drinks. He paid the $156.00 bill. I ask to speake to the manager. She came from the kitchen. I told her about all the disruptive behavior from the children and how it kept us from enjoying our dinner. I said all restaurants need policies for parents to be in control oftheir children at all times. Disruptive children should be taken out by parents. It’s also a safety issue. She looked at me and said “ we advertise as a family friendlyrestaurant “. I said that I had been in many chiid friendly restaurants and never experienced anything like tonight. Chucky Cheese has more order than this restaurant. The food was good but from now on when staying st the Beach Club I will drive 40 minutes to Orange Beach when I want to spend a $150+ on a nice meal.Thank you for choosing Coast Restaurant & Sushi Bar on your recent visit. We value each guest, as we know that you have a choice when deciding where to dine while here in Gulf Shores. Excellent service and guest satisfaction are our most important priorities, and both are taken very seriously. We strive to exceed our guest expectations, and on behalf of all Spectrum staff I would like to sincerely apologize that we were not able to achieve this during your vacation with us.

Mikato's Japanese Restaurant

Things seemed to improve here from last year. Our recent visit found a courteous and friendly staff. We were greeted warmly upon entering, and seated immediately. Our orders were taken in a reasonable amount of time. Our chef put on a very good show, keeping us entertained and seemed to genuinely enjoy his work. The food was cooked to perfection. Each of us were satisfied and did not walk away hungry. The eating area as well as restrooms were clean. The price is typical of what you expect to pay at a hibachi. I would recommend this restaurant.
