Much nicer looking inside than outside, and some very tasty Chinese food and a fairly large menu of options to choose from. The place is laid out like a regular sit-down restaurant, though they have To-Go options and both visits, it seems like they were getting more to-go orders and pick-ups than people dining inside for some reason. I've heard it used to be a buffet a long time ago, but it isn't anymore. For appetizers, we really enjoyed the fried dumplings and egg rolls, and the General Tso Chicken for the main entree was awesome.

Sake Express is a regular for us. We prefer the drive-thru, which gets slam packed during the dinner rush. Recently, we tried to visit on a Sunday evening and the drive-thru line extended onto Franklin Blvd. We ended up going to the one in Belmont instead. It's no secret as to why cars line up on Gastonia's main strip to get a taste of this restaurant. The portions are large, the service is accurate 100 percent of the time, and even though I hate that sloped drive-thru, which always makes me nervous when the line is full and the person behind me is right on my tail, the food is worth the annoyance. I usually order the hibachi steak/shrimp/chicken combinations and the tempura Gastonia roll, which is a fried sushi roll for those who don't always prefer it raw. Definitely one of the places that put Gastonia on the map. The service at the one in Belmont is okay, but our orders have turned out to be inaccurate there, and I haven't been to the one in Lake Wylie or Mount Holly. Love Sake Express!

We had heard this place was better than the other Japanese choices in Gastonia and surrounding towns - so we tried it and agree with what we were told. They made the kids some custom sushi and the wife and I enjoyed our plates.

Was staying nearby on a business trip and was in the mood for sushi. Found this place on Tripadvisor (thanks to all who wrote reviews) and chose it based on the reviews it received. I drove up and kind of took a second look because this restaurant is in what appears to be a metal building but it looked decent so I went in. I sat at the bar and was promtply served by Bryson. Great service. Sushi was AWESOME. They have a full menu of meals as well which I will work on next time I am in town. If you are in the mood for sushi, asian, thai etc., and are in the area, don't miss this place.
