Having come from Vancouver, which has no shortage of great sushi restaurants, I can confidently say that Domo Japan is up there with the very best. Their sockeye salmon sashimi is masterfully prepared and everything else on their menu that I have tried is delicious. An easy 5 stars.

Our second try.....only because both times our favourite Vietnamese place next door was closed. Firstly, the place appears run down, a year old poster on the notice board, front area very untidy, almost dirty, and no visible selection of fish at the sushi counter. I knew better than to eat here again however we were out of the car, hungry, and...what the heck. I had sunomono salad and a tekka maki - can't go wrong there.Service by the one staff member, the sushi chef, was indifferent.Prices were high and out of line for the establishment.

Since we had a big group of 10, we got to sit in a private room. The table is traditional and we all had to take off our shoes and sit on the bamboo mats on the floor. This was a very cute experience for the kids.Staff was friendly. They were able to reassure me that we could have a nut-free meal since my son is allergic. We were dining with people who needed gluten-free food so they were able to accommodate that as well with a small $1 or $2 fee per dish, depending on the order. They even had a separate gluten-free soy sauce for them. The food was excellent. We enjoyed the tempura, maki rolls, pretty much everything.

Luxury Japanese food at an affordable price
I decided to try a Spider Roll, a Spicy Salmon Roll and a Spicy Scallop Roll. All three rolls were well made and very tasty. The Spider Roll was big, but could have been a bit longer. Strangely they charged me an extra .25 cents for spicy sauce on my Scallop Roll. Itâs not the cost that is ridiculous, itâs the principle. Itâs embarrassing they have the nerve to charge an extra .25 cents for sauce, when your bill for one person is almost $30 (not including drinks). The prices here are very reasonable for the quality of sushi.

I love sockeye sashimi. What I could not understand was this restaurant served Atlantic salmon sashimi! On Vancouver island! Odd. They had this on their menu as a budget choice. They did have wild sockeye at a higher price but was still miffed they had the farmed fish at all!

A very good lunch experience: we ordered bento boxes, udon soup, and classic cone/rolls. Pop was cheap at $2/can and the portions of our dishes were more substantial compared to other Japanese restaurants we go to. The deluxe soup actually had more veggies than just the typical onions one receives in udon soup. The salad in the bento box was atypical as well. The miso soup was worth its economic price because it lacked tofu or seaweed -- a disappointment. But overall, the food was fresh, service kind and restaurant clean. Only one server for the small restaurant when we were there. The washrooms were wheelchair-friendly. I would recommend.
