We visited Mikata Japanese Steakhouse while in the area for my soldier’s graduation from Fort Benning. Mikata’s owner greeted us at the door, was pleasant and welcoming. While we could not be seated immediately, he kept us updated as to when we could expect to be seated. We had a party of five. The Hibachi chef was very talented, and made the experience fun. The steak was cooked to order, and the seafood was fresh.

What a fun time! Quick seating, quick service, lots of food and our chef was outstanding in keeping my grandson entertained! The steak, scallops, shrimp, squid and salmon were all delicious. The creamy ginger dressing was yummy. We also ordered a spicy tuna roll, California roll and sashimi, which was all quite yummy! As an alcohol-free family, we focused on real interaction and food, and that is what we got! Hibachi style grills are often overly commercial and expensive, however this was not the norm. The teens enjoyed chicken nuggets and fries. If you are looking for a good dinner getaway for off-post time, especially during Army graduation, make a 4:00pm reservation and you will have ample time to enjoy and get back to post! I highly recommend, especially for interactive fun groups. *Each grill holds approximate 9-10 people, so perfect for bigger groups!

My wife and I visited the restaurant on Saturday afternoon. We ordered drunken noodles, tom yum soup and sushi. The food was really good and fast served. It is a big restaurant which is close to downtown Columbus and the waiters and waitresses are friendly. Will recommend for everyone!

Samurai Japanese Cusine & Sushi Bar

Overall, this was a decent restaurant and experience however the quality of the food was wildly all over the place. The three companions with me received their food fairly quickly. All but one had their food cooked perfectly and were served a generous portion. My food was ok, but I had much less chicken on my plate compared to the glut of steak they were served. The one person whose steak was undercooked was able to send it back and have it cooked to her liking. We were a little surprised to see a $1 service fee on each person’s bill in a party of four. The server explained it as a fee to pay the cooks for cooking our food. A simple solution would be to tack that charge on the menu upfront. I saw some beautiful sushi entrees so I would be willing to give them another shot.
