Apparently this is rated 1 Michelin star. At least one staff here speak English - according to the Tourist Information. I rang up 2 weeks prior but they were fully booked. Our hotel managed to get us a last minute private room. I suppose the best part about sushi restaurants in Japan is sitting at the counter watching the chef at work but a room was just as good for us. As we didn't know that the Omakase/Kaiseki meal had to be booked a day in advance, we went for their set sushi menus, which was really good. The recommended set for sushi was below 5,000 yen for 15 pieces (if my poor memory serves me correctly). We didn't give this a 5 star rating, although my partner loved this place, because the fish slices were a tad on the small side IMHO. But it was very fresh, nevertheless. We ordered the conger eel soup and another white fish soup in addition, which was also very good (which led us to believe perhaps their Omakase would be just as good). We also had a cold sake from Otokoyama and it was interesting that they let you pick a cup of your choice to use for the sake. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. While we were there, we only saw Japanese patrons, which was exactly what we were hoping for. We would consider this a slightly off the beaten track experience and excellent value for sushi of that quality. It's located within walking distance (about 10 minutes max) to the train station.

I'll try to be short so as not to sound overly emotional. Sushi was superb. Actually taught me about the right balance between sushi, soy sauce and wasabi. The fish were superb - fresh and unusual - as you could expect in Hokkaido. The soup was unique and supremely delicious as well. We were lucky to be here for the melon season - and if you're here in the summer you may agree there's nothing like it. Service was cordial, restaurant design was pleasantly traditional. And needless to say you'd pay at least twice as much in Tokyo for this level of sushi. Greatly located right at the city center. Go

Please only order japanese food in this sort of restaurant though you may also find them having western food on the menu. I ordered this sashimi with sea urchin sauce sabu sabu, it was special and delicious. Remember to ask for today's special sashimi. The tempura is also quite good. Unfortunately, even they have an English menu, only the standard food is shown.

Chanced upon this restaurant while looking for a place to eat around the hotel. It's a really good find. Located near the shopping street, this restaurant has a counter seating as well as tatami type seating upstairs. There is plenty of food to choose from. All at very reasonable price. Portions are large too. Taste is very nice and delicious. Service is fast and friendly. My only grouse is the floor at the tatami seating. It looks a little dated. Overall, I would go back again for another round of good food.

We went to two branches of this excellent restaurant, the other being in Minami Higashi. It was worth the long wait to get seats. Best to order straight from the menu rather than taking from the conveyor belt. For this quality sushi the price is very reasonable.
