We were not disappointed. We had to drive a little ways off of I-81 to find it. Glad we did. Service was good & very reasonable. The plate portions were plentiful. Cost was reasonable, as well. Just looking around & it confirmed our thoughts that the locals enjoy eating here.

We are staying at the Roanoke hotel & conference center & drove out to Salem for this Japanese restaurant.I enjoyed my Valentine's night but sadly this would not be my pick for any future evenings. First impression; the decor was very tired (not dirty just not maintained for a vey long time). The service was good & quick (a little to quick but was friendly). We had the Hibachi Tenderloin, shrimp & fish at $27.95 each which came with 2-3oz Soup, Salad, Vegetables & Rice.We are potion control conscious & the portion size & $ value was good overall.Quality of food; Average+The Soup was tasteless & reminded me of a basic chicken stock bullion we added a little soy sauce to give it some flavor & was just ok.The Small bowl of salad was plain shredded iceberg lettuce with the house sesame seed sauce dressing, again was ok (but not worth leaving home for). The entrée Tenderloin & Shrimp was very good! Tasty & cooked perfectly! Unfortunately when asked I ordered my Tenderloin 'Medium' however this establishment 'assumes' that 'Medium' also applies to the Fish! So although it was tasty it was crispy on the bottom & around the edges & needed a knife to brake it up!!! I did not eat it.Being a Japanese restaurantIt would have been nice to have the usual choice of chopsticks or cutlery (silverware) rather than just a fork, as it was I had to ask for the knife to brake up the fish hahaha.Such a shame as this restaurant has the potential to be so much better with just a few simple changes. I hope the owners take it up a few notches real quick if they want to keep up with other good similar establishments nearby in both Salem & Roanoke.

Had some gift cards to use up so we came here for an early dinner. Initially they were not going to accept them because they were no longer part of the Darden family, but server checked with management and they said they would. Server was very friendly and accomodating, except when we were ready to leave and could not find him to obtain the check. Could not decide what to get so initially hubby and I were going to split our steaks. Hubby got 12 ounce sirloin and proceeded to eat the whole thing, except the one piece he gave me, because it was cooked and seasoned perfectly. My prime rib on the other hand.....had ordered it medium, came closer to rare, very tough, no flavor, even with the horseradish sauce. Hubby took one small bite and I left most of it. Loaded baked potato was small and did not have alot of toppings. Side salad was the right size but had too much dressing--my fault for not asking for it on the side.
