La Ceiba (Spanish pronunciation: [la ˈseiβa]) is a port city on the northern coast of Honduras in Central America. It is located on the southern edge of the Caribbean, forming part of the south eastern boundary of the Gulf of Honduras. With an estimated population of over 200,000 living in approximately 170 residential areas (called colonias or barrios), it is the third largest city in the country and the capital of the Honduran department of Atlántida. La Ceiba was officially founded on 23 August 1877. The city was named after a giant ceiba tree which grew near the old dock. The dock itself finally fell into the sea in late 2007. The city has been officially proclaimed the "Eco-Tourism Capital of Honduras" as well as the "Entertainment Capital of Honduras". Every year, on the third or fourth Saturday of May, the city holds its famous carnival to commemorate Isidore the Laborer (Spanish San Isidro Labrador). During this time, the city is host to approximately 500,000 tourists.
Things to do in La Ceiba
We have eaten here a number of times during our annual trips to Honduras, and we've always enjoyed our meals. This year, four of us had our Sunday evening meal together at La Plancha, and we all were very happy with the food and service. My grilled fish was especially delicious! We will be back!!
We eat here almost every year when we are in Honduras for our annual mission trip. It is a very pleasant, open air restaurant with a comfortably casual atmosphere that serves a nice variety of grilled meats which are prepared right in the middle of the restaurant on a huge wood-fired grill. The young woman who usually waits tables speaks English pretty well, which is a big help for us. The food has occasionally been a little too salty, but is otherwise delicious. Personally, I almost always get the grilled fish, but we've also enjoyed the chicken, beef and pork offerings, as well. Restaurante Al Corral is usually our first taste of "tipico" food when we arrive in Honduras, and it is always a nice welcome back for us having the delicious local offerings like anafres, fried plantains and handmade tortillas. I'm already looking forward to going again next year!
Our family went and no one like what was served to us, bad taste, no flavor. The service was not very good either, we had to find a waiter to get another drink.
A beatiful place to eat traditional food from Honduras infront the beach enjoying the amazing view of the sea, birds and trees.
I really loved everything here! Food, music, view! It's infront of beach, a great place to relax with your family, Im coming back with my family!
