Reviews on Steakhouse food in Gros Islet, Gros Islet Quarter, Caribbean. Gros Islet, on the northern tip of St. Lucia, is a blossoming destination, at once remote and exciting.  The best way to explore the shoreline may be Island Riders, where riding veterans and beginners alike can trot along on horseback and chat with the locals.  The Jump Up street party, perhaps the most recognized of the town's attractions, is also a must for a taste of Gros Islet's unique blend of food and music.

Ate here 3 times on our last trip, partially due to other places being closed. in low season. Food great on all 3 occasions, service a shambles on one visit but great on the other 2 (Jade is great)We were lucky that they were temporarily re-located onto the decking (ie Tapas's location) as the main building was having the roof repaired. This is a much better venue IMO and I hope they stay there! We have always found inside to be stuffy. All food was excellent, great starters, mains (not much room for puds but good as well). Starters included deep fried calamari, mussels, bouillabaisse, beetroot salad. All first class. Mains were various steaks, the New York Sirloin was my favourite, my wife had the Beef Fillet. Really top quality steak excellently cooked and good sides. Reasonable choice of non steak dishes but we didn't partake. Can put up with service glitches for food this good!Good well priced wine list. Food not cheap but worth every EC$i once said that Buzz had a better steak that Big Chef. I have changed my mind! Will definitely return if on the deckingSTEVEHi Steve, thanks so much for sharing such a detailed review. We're delighted that you enjoyed your meal with us, including our temporary relocation. We don't have plans to permanently move Big Chef to the Tapas building, but please do let us know the next time you're visiting, and I'm sure we can make plans to accommodate you on the deck! Thanks again. Rosie.

What a fantastic bar! I can’t get enough of this place and the owner was telling us last night about comedy and poetry nights in addition to live music - coming soon. It has got an amazing vibe, fantastic food, fabulous drinks, and the decor is perfection. I love that it’s just off the main street in Gros Islet so it has a more intimate vibe but it’s still steps from the street party jam.

Staying at the very special St James Club Morgan Bay during February it seemed a good idea to pay the additional supplement for a seven course meal in this restaurant on site which we understand is not owned by the hotel. The menu looked wonderful and we started with a complimentary sparkling aperitif .They did not have our choice of Sauvignon so we were persuaded to a Sancerre for which we were charged $60, a bit strong we thought! After an hour we had only had bread and oyster chowder. Things speeded up somewhat and we enjoyed Quail, crayfish and a champagne sorbet. There were many, many staff but some should have been redeployed to the kitchen as although beautiful and tasty the food was invariably cold. A dry aged sirloin was spoiled by a cold carrot “ variation” a smear of purée to you and I.We left two hours fifty minutes later, frustrated that good food was ruined by pretentious fussy service. We have appreciated fine dining in the past but this was not.Another couple left before dessert because they were tired of waiting. I suspect we got their dessert which did speed things along. What a shame.
