Best known to most Germans as the locale of Georg-August University, Gottingen has about 130,000 residents, about a quarter of whom are students. Gänseliesel (Goose Girl) is the city's most famous resident, a 1901 fountain built in front of the 14th century Rathaus (Town Hall), which today houses the city's tourist office. But even Goose Girl can't escape the college students, who by tradition upon receiving their PhDs must climb and kiss her, making her "the most kissed girl in the world."

Timberjacks Grill of Mind is Home for fine food and craft beer, music events and lifestyle by nature.
This place is insane, it feels like a massive restaurant in Wisconsin. The menu was massive and ultimately this was their downfall. The kitchen just couldnât keep up with the menu. While the waiters were working their tails off, everything took way too long tonight. A bottle of water took more than ten minutes to arrive. A single beer took about 25. And ultimately, we waited more than an hour on our food. That said, the food was nice (though after the wait we were pretty much over this place) and the ambiance pleasant. But I wouldnât return.

Living abroad, there is one thing I have missed, a good burger. Finally, after 8 years and burgers all over Germany, Göttingen has the winner. Lokalneun is a new restaurant that serves organic beef from a nearby farm with happy animals, they try to source their other ingredients from nearby towns - super plus for us! The burger comes in 100 grams (a bit under 1/4 lb and about 10 Euros for bacon burger) or 170 grams (a bit over 1/3 lb), the bun is perfect, not soggy, fits the burger patty, and everything was balanced and delicious. We ordered the bacon burger which had a chipoltle mayo and bbq sauce. My husband had the onion relish which was carmelized onions on his. There is actually a REAL pickle and the tomato was red - not one of those crunchy white ones. Instead of lettuce, they serve the burger with rucola. I am normally a purist and don't care for all of these sauces, especially in Germany because they drench everything, so you can't taste anything but sauce. These people know what they are doing, every bite was delicious - strong competitor to some of my favorite burger joints in the US. I should mention that the bacon was thick cut and delicious. My only suggestion would be to make the standard burger maybe 125 grams, 100 grams was a bit too small, but 170 grams would have been too big.Now the fries, they were handcut and great, seasoned to perfection (my first time eating handcut fries in Germany too). Presentation was great, there was a small side of coleslaw. I am normally not a fan, but it was good. This was not an attempt to immitate, these people did their research and I would wonder if somone worked in the US and brought this deliciousness back with them. There is an assortment of seasoned nuts that is brought to the table while wating for food to arrive - spicy, sweet, almonds, cashews, etc. They are in test tubes, fun idea. My kids loved it - husband too. The look of the restaurant is very comfortable, light and had a modern, industrial look. There is a fantastic looking, very large terrace that is waiting for patrons when the wearther is good, can't wait to be one of them! The server (Jan) was very knowledgable and very friendly - may I mention that we were dining with our 5 and 2 year old? He was very kind to our kids and treated them like patrons. If your German is a bit rusty, or non-existant, Jan speaks English too! I can't recommend this restaurant enough. We will definately be back. We have heard too that the steaks are fantastic. Gotta love a place that tries to treat mother earth well and their patrons too! All too rare in Germany.
