Like most of the "churrasquerias" we could find a wide variety of food, generously served, but the quantity plays against quality. It is not bad but neither very good.

Having visited Asuncion practically every year since 2002, it's been amazing watching the growth of the city away from the 'old' downtown area and the number of restaurants that have opened and in some cases, closed. My churrusqueria of choice in the early days was always the Paulista Grill but each time I visit family and friends here, we're always invited to the latest opening and this time, we were treated to an evening at the Galpon Criollo.Parking was easy, although it was very busy around 9pm and there was the usual 'parking attendant' to 'look after' our car for the usual G$5000 or so.Inside the restaurant, you have to take a moment to look around at the decor. A lot of money and effort has clearly been spent in making the inside look pretty spectacular and it has a great ambience. The waiters were particularly friendly and we were brought water and offered drinks literally the moment we sat down! They have a great range of beers including the lovely Baltika brand from Russia, as well as some excellent wines (we had a delicious and well-prifed Malbec from Argentina. Now, before we'd even ventured to the 'salad bar' (which hardly describes the huge range of hot and cold dishes available, as well as sushi), we were being offered a selection of chorizo sausages (some picante, some not so spicy) and after a couple of each I decided to take it easy before I'd be stuffed full before trying the meats!Waiters came and went bearing a huge assortment of meats including all the finest cuts of picana, bife de chorizo, tapa de quadril, ribs (beef and pork), and some others I've forgotten. The cuts were generous and plentiful and the waiters would happily carve you whichever bit you wanted, with a smile. The selection of side dishes was frankly astonishing and included salads, spaghetti, milanesas de carne o surubi, stroganoff, papas fritas, mandioca frita, sopa paraguaya and pretty much anything you'd ever tried in Paraguay.Everything was pretty good in terms of quality for this type of restaurant and the dishes were regularly replenished. There were a lot of families with children in the restaurant and everyone seemed to be having an enjoyable time (there was a football match Paraguay vs Chili on the big TV screen so lots of cheering etc. as Paraguay won).Struggling to leave room for a bit of postre, I stopped accepting meat slices and waited a while before checking out the two dessert bars. As expected, everything was present and correct so that'll be flan budim, torte de helado, jelly, dulce de leche with everything and a few trifles to name but a few.I had to stop at this point as I wanted to be able to walk afterwards so had a coffee which was surprisingly good (they had a Nespresso type machine) and just watched the football and chatted a while. The waiters were attentive without being overbearing and all were smartly dressed in uniform and extremely professional, particularly with their meat-carving skills.I'm not entirely sure what it cost as our friends insisted on paying but from what I saw, it was relatively expensive by Asuncion stabdards (which of course means really cheap compated to the UK prices I'm used to).All in all, I can't wait to come back next time (assuming it's still there - but I'm sure it will be) as it really is a great restaurant and I expect it'll get even busier as word gets around.

Excelente atención y calidad de los productos ofrecidos.

I went here with friends for dinner. The buffet was good - a wide range of salads and breads. The waiters came round frequently with a range of bbq'd meats which all tasted great. You could eat as much as you wanted. They also served a great spinach cannelloni. Desserts were superb and looked like works of art. The bill for 3 came to around Gs 327.000 (around £47 at current exchange rates). This was not much for a traveller although may be for a local. I can definitely recommend it if you find yourself in Asuncion.

Rodizio

Reviewed By DrunkardsWalk

This restaurant offers the "churrasquiera" experience from Brazil. You have the option to pay by weight or "all-you-can-eat" for one flat price. If you choose the weight option (good for light eaters), just stop by the scale each time you load up and an employee will weigh your food and write the cost on your bill. There is a wide selection of hot and cold foods in a self-serve buffet style and one section with barbecued meat that is served to you by the cook. If you know what you want, just point or ask. If you don't know, then just ask for a selection. The main reason I rated this restaurant a 4/5 is because the meats were all well-done and some were very tough. I think if a restaurants focus is on barbecued meat, they should be good at cooking it to perfection rather than letting it sit and dry out over the flames for too long.Drink service is provided by a waiter. When I was there, the waiter was attentive and offered water, drinks, and coffee/tea later. Each table also had a "call service" button that would summon the waiter if you needed anything. Once you settle up your final bill with the waiter, you receive a pass to exit the restaurant which you pass to the attendant at the exit door.If you are staying in the old downtown area, Rodizio is very well located on Palma right beside the Burger King. It is worth a visit if you are close, but I wouldn't travel across the city to get to it.

Reasonably varied buffet, with emphasys in inexpensive, bulky food. The meat is not as good as in most steakhouses in town. Service of the best cuts is available only after repetitive and insistent offers of lower quality ones. Higiene is not great.

This Brazilian-style restaurant has a surprisingly good assortment of salads and other dishes (such as pastas, fish, sushi, etc) on top of the meat constantly served at your table. You may well come here even if you're not a meat-lover - there is plenty of other nice food to indulge in. Once finished, there is a variety of desserts (including cheese) to choose from. Service is friendly and prices are comfortable.
