Hitting Abashiri in winter, walking largely deserted streets in the middle of the day it was looking unlikely that we were going to find someplace to eat. Still we found this restaurant and the plastic food had some reasonable selections in the window. However, the menu inside had about a third of the displayed meals unavailable. So we took a punt and picked two meals. The prices were average , if maybe a little high for some meals (1100-2500Â¥). The food was good (drinks not included), they were a bit big for my partner and myself, but big eaters should be ok. Then people finishing their meals started to light up cigarettes. For such a small restaurant this was too much and the extraction fans didn't remove it. However, on the positive the lady shuffling between tables was attentive and cheery, even entertaining in a motherly way. If Japanese isn't your first choice then about a 800m away on the main road (not far from the Dormy Inn) you'll find a KFC. Still give this restaurant a go if you want to try a largely meat oriented menu that fills.

I believe this is the best bento box Iâve had in Japan. And my family will be sure to agree with me. Abashiri is quite remote and tourists come here just for the drift ice cruise. If you travel through the JR Abashiri, be sure to get your fill. My favourite was the rice covered in Abashiri scallops. There is a small taster/sampler box with a sample of every box they have. If they are out of stock; just wait 10 minutes. They will refresh the boxes shortly. We didnt know this. We bought some boxes that were not our first choice. Five minutes later, new ones arrived via the back kitchen. Prices were reasonable around yen1000.
