Regardless of what we ordered, any restaurant that gives you mild food poisoning, a fever, and 48 hours of vomiting and diahorrea afterwards is worth a huge warning sign for health and safety, hygiene and staff training.More concretely, the 'rape en salsa marinera' (monkfish in seafood sauce) my partner ordered was the toughest, oldest tasting fish he said he had tried in 39 years of his life. As he was eating it, he actually said ''I hope I don't feel ill after this...". And in fact, half of it was left, and the only reason we didn't say anything was that we didn't want to make a scene in front of other diners. Even if we had done, we wouldn't have avoided the resulting upset stomach that absolutely ruined a chunk of our holiday in Lugo. Given that we ate nothing else that day - we were travelling all day - we are absolutely sure that it was the fish and/or bread that caused this.More on the bread - incredibly stale and - what a surprise - old. Not even fit for the duck pond.We dined here on a Sunday, and maybe one could argue that the restaurant didn't get a fresh delivery of bread that day... However, we have dined in many restaurants on this day and always had fresh bread with our meals. It is unacceptable that this place gets away with serving food that is clearly past its best. It's a pity because it looks nice and cosy, and the waiting staff were cordial and professional.

Excellent quality and low cost with perfect service. Busy and friendly. We had 6 good wines, 6 or more free tapas as well as other local nibbles off the waiters tray. That included delicious white anchovies. Then as a meal we ordered scallops (better than expensive restaurant) and a plate of calamari. Local toasted almond liquor to finish as 'dessert'- we ordered but ended up being complimentary. If we were staing another night we'd return. Places on the square faded in comparison.

Been now three weeks in Spain and what has characterised eating out had been: good food, friendly service and leisurely eating.Offered two menus; the Spanish one had a menu of the day, the English one did not...hmmm.Usually when we have asked help on the wine we are offered a low to mid range. Here, it was upper end.Our first course was taken away before we had finished, with the waitor standing beside the table till I finished. The main course (Hake) was so salty that for nearly the first time ever I sent it back. The second attempt was not much better, and I lost half my fish..Just so pleased to get out of the place.. Shame.

No volveré.

We wanted to visit the Lugo city museum but we're hungry. A museum guard recommended this small place just across the square. The staff were friendly and happily explained which dishes on the day's fixed price luncheon menu did not contain gluten. The pork chops were tender and tasty, the salad dressing simple but divine.

This place is wonderful. The food was fantastic and the surrounds are beautiful. We were taken here by minibus from the wedding in Lugo Town Hall. It is about a 15 minute drive from town.It is an old water mill.

If not for trip-advisor and other guides, as a visitor to Lugo you would miss-out on locations like this one. In an unsuspicious street, behind a nice entrance you'll find a bar, and in the back a large busy restaurant - reservations are helpful. Great food and service.

Is not in the old city center surrounded by big walls but it pays a visit! Excellent food!!! The tempura is not specially interesting. The provolone was tasty but very simple made in the oven with some mushrooms. The rice was delightful, well cooked, tasty and we ate it all! Homemade desserts... original and tasty: we loved âEsenciaâ with pistacchio and black tea icecream!

This is one of the best Assador Restaurants that I have experienced. Their specialty is the fresh Lamb al horno which is superb. Also great appetizers like Chipirones en su tinta, tomate slices with ventresca de Atún, olive oil, opinion, Modena vinegar. Great wine cellar.Expensive, but excellent. Free parking. It is about 15 minutes from Lugo city. José Campo, CHA
