We are a family owned restaurant with a freindly atmosphere. HistoryVazquez Restuaraunt came out of a deli in a grocery store in New Orleans, Lousiana 30 years ago.25 years ago we branched out to the North Shore in Convington, Lousiana. To this day we main
This little place is just a big window stuck between a bar and another building. Inside are just little tables with checkered table cloths. When I past by there were just a few people eating and it was close to closing time and I almost past it by. I am glad I didn't! Walking up to the counter to order I saw two older gentlemen eating what looked like homemade meatloaf with mashed potatoes and string beans. It looked very good! That is what I ordered and it was served with a salad. It got to my table very hot so be careful with that first bite. I gotta say it was awesome, like eating at your momma's. The meatloaf and potatoes were covered in gravy and served with two pieces of buttered French bread, which I used to sop up all the left over gravy. I can't wait to go back and try something else because Vazquez left a very good impression!

THE FOOD WAS INCREDIBLE...AND THE WAITERS, ARE AWESOME!!....My husband liked it and he hates Mexican foods...Lol. The chips with salsa, and guacamole were the best. My husband had the Shrimp Monterrey Dinner, grilled shrimp with fresh cut veggies and rice
The environment and layout is cool, had an acoustic singer there who was really good. The food was mediocre, even the chips and salsa sucked. Our waitress, Samantha was the worst ever. She was rude and in the end literally tossed the bill on the table while I wasn't looking and hadn't even asked for it...even the table beside us gave us a half smile, understanding how I was caught off guard. Not sure we'll be going back.
Had very high expectations based on the reviews, but it was a complete disappointment. Restaurant was dark and fairly empty for lunch time, which should have been our first clue. Including my wife and I there were a total of 6 patrons. The waitress couldnât have been any less in a hurry. Frankly, it seems as if she was the only one working the restaurant. She was definitely the only front of house employee and from what we could see there was no one else in the kitchen. It took forever to get a draft beer. Like, we had our appetizer before she brought my draft beer, and there were a total of 6 diners in the restaurant. We ordered the tostones app which was 4 fried plantains literally covered with a mound of black bean paste and meat. It looked like 4 mounds of dog poop on a plate that you had to sift through to get to the plantains. It was not fresh at all, clearly microwaved. The tacos were just as awful. Unfortunately for me I got the same meat in the tacos that were on the plantains. Old, dry, horrible. My wife ordered a tamale. Again, microwaved, stale, just not good. This building must be cursed since every establishment that operates out of here is just not very good. Iâm not sure what other reviewers are eating or on what day they came or maybe they just donât know good food, but this was awful, the prices are ridiculous for the quality of food, and the service is horrible. There are definitely many other better options in Downtown Covington. Never again...

We've eaten here several times, and each has been a winner. My all time fav is the catrachitas $5.50. Today we had the honduran chicken $3 (which was authentic, but average, the filling was heavy on masa, with few potatoes and only 1 olive). However, I ordered the Tajada con carne molida.$8.50 It is plantains topped with ground beef & potatoes in gravy, topped with cabbage, shredded chicken, salsa, pickled jalapeno, pickled onions, and fresca cheese. OMG - the layers of flavor - ABSOLUTELY delicious !!!!!Local, family owned, on the street behind Home Depot. Very reasonable prices. Good service. All dishes are made from scratch.Good for families or singles. Lots of TVs - usually tuned to soccer. They also serve BREAKFAST and make tripe soup on weekends.
