Took quite a while to take drinks order.Tapas was ok but over priced for portion sizes. Desserts - dont bother with the strawberry marshmallows and chocolate. They cut the strawberries up so small if I had two whole strawberries it was pushing it. I'd asked for extra marshmallows as I'm allergic to banana. If I got extra I'd be amazed. Chocolate was cold. Allegedly it was to share but glad my partner wasnt there to share as I wouldn't like his chances on getting any.We weren't asked if our desserts were satisfactory and when I commented on the tiny portion size they took just £2 off the bill.Atmosphere: there was a birthday party in that was way too loud without the staff caring about how this affected the other guests some of which left early to avoid the noise. At one point I couldnt even hear the person next to me the noise was so loud.Far better restaurants in port solent.Very unusual for us not to leave a full 10% tip but we really didnt feel that it was warranted on this occasion

North Star is a Spanish Tapas restaurant with traditional fish &chips restaurant and take away. At North Star you have the opportunity to order between Spanish and Mediterranean dishes as well as fish and chips.
From the outside the North Star looks like a typical large town pub. Inside itâs another world. Crisp scarlet table cloths and white linen napkins make for a smart restaurant setting. The service is friendly and efficient while the tapas are fantastic. We ordered from the set lunch menu which meant that the four of us could have a total of twelve tapas. We ordered one each of the ten tapas on the menu with double helpings of the whitebait and meatballs. Everything was freshly cooked, was served at the same time and everything was delicious. The house wine was good and the bill remarkably reasonable for the amount and quality of the food which we had had. Some of the best tapas that Iâve had and we will definitely return.

Our first visit to this restaurant proved successful. We hadnt booked and there was no quibbling about walking in off the street. The front of house man is Antonio. The restaurant is authentically Spanish in its cuisine both with Tapas and full menu.We had tapas starters just to share the various choices across smaller portions! We chose from the SPecial fish board which was extensive and decided on the Fish mixed grill which consisted of local River trout; sea bass and Plaice. It was delicious. In typically Spanish style the main plate came with potatoes and then vegetables were served separately with the offer of further supplies if needed which made a change from restaurants nowadays. The wine list was clearly Spanish with some pleasant choices available. The wine is fairly pricey for the class of the place (sadly). When will restrateurs go with the option of reducing wine and selling more?A really good restaurant for the town of Fareham. The owners sense of humour was good for customers enjoyment too.

Buzzy tapas Portsmouth style with inventive drinks offer. Clearly the place for professionals to come with friends for bright conversations - though obviously not exclusively or why were we there?. The tapas themselves are mostly small portions of what would normally be a main course and very well cooked and presented. Big salads. Nice crockery. Lots of veggie , gluten free and other dietary options. Service a little on the flurried side but not disagreeably so and pleasantly amiable.

El Toro is one of those restaurants that often people recommend in Portsmouth and I was surprised I hadn't been sooner myself. I love myself a steak dinner and its my 'go to' meal if we are out and treating ourselves to a 'nice' meal. I booked a table online because I was conscious of the fact so many people had been, I didn't want to turn up on the evening and find they couldn't seat us, especially as it was for my boyfriend's birthday- Turns out it was quite quiet and a booking wasn't really necessary but glad I took the precaution nonetheless. We were welcomed warmly and taken to a table that wasn't so warm. I could feel the air con right on us so decided to leave my jacket on but it didn't bother me too much. Myself and my boyfriend both order an 8oz Sirloin steak with steak cut chips cooked medium rare. Our meals came out really quickly which was great as I was really looking forward to it because of all the recommendations. I don't want to say I was disappointed because the food tasted lovely, cooked to our requirements and couldn't fault it but couldn't help but have the feeling of ' I've had better' . Maybe I should have chosen a different cut of meat? I can't put my finger on it , I just wasn't overwhelmed by my meal, the chips were really good and I really enjoyed my cocktail. I chose sticky toffee pudding as a desert which was truly delicious and my boyfriend had the cheesecake ( the waitress had to find out the flavour which was being served that day which was a little surprising as expected her to know but thought she may be new?) I believe the flavour was caramel and pear which he enjoyed very much.I would like to come back and experience something else as I know they often have different offers and deals on at different times and would like to return to give it another review. I will be back!Dear Em,Thank you for a review of El Toro. Thank you for the compliments of the dining experience and we hope to see you again very soon.
