Whether or not this was a place that we stumbled across or was recommended I am not sure. We were en route to the fabulous Castillo de Castellar and we were recommended a restaurant on the way. I am certain though we made an error???This was not a nice experience. Upon arrival there was no clear reception area for greeting and in the end we just sat down at our own table. The restaurant was busy enough but not overly busy- say 50%??Service was poor but this was not a reflection of the staff because they were great - simply not enough of them!!!Food I have to be honest was not good enough. Spanish food generally is fantastic but this was not good. Everything appeared to be fried!! Portions small and by Spanish standards just not good value. Go to centre of Sotogrande - way better!!!

This is in a sleepy laid back little town... centrally located.very quite area. with ample parking in the vicinity, at no charge, We sat out at the front, where we had views of the streets and passing folk, this is an establishment that is quiet well supported by locals as well as others passing through...as we sat down, there were ''no'' more tables available..After ordering drinks, we decided to order 4 different dishes and eat them like tapas...sharing with everyone...we had duck, pork steaks, fish and meat rissoles....all accompanied with chips, salad and bread...Very flavoursome and of good portions, nothing was left and it was enjoyed by us all....The service was prompt the waiter funny and polite with no pressure on us ....good customer service. We were given ''free'' after shots of a local liquor....I didn't visit the toilet, so not sure of the cleanliness, but overall a good experience and food at a reasonable price....would visit again...

This place is very Spanish - rustic food and drink. Don't expect too much and you will enjoy it. We had lunch here after a lovely walk. Had revuelto con esparragos (Asparagus and scrambled egg) and a glass of white rioja. Had to wait quite a long time, but food very tasty and worth it in the end.

"La Almoraima"is such a beautiful hotel that it would take a truly excellent restaurant to do it justice. Alas, "La Gañania" does not do this. The staff are lovely, although strangely clad in clothes ranging from a suit and tie to washed jeans. At such a level one also does not expect to find "Mouse Duck", "Salad with crunky of ham" or "Disch of the Day" on the menu (elegantly presented in cork covers). The food, which was only slightly above average, was served on cold plates on a rocking table. In the "Ladies" there was neither loo roll nor paper towels. The room itself was so minimalist as to completely lack any form of ambience. But coffee and brandy in the delightful cloisters was very soothing!

The restaurant is attached to the Castillo, where we were staying. The menu looks OK and there were several couples eating there when we arrived - all staying at the castle. Atmosphere OK but not great: the restaurant is in one of the restored casas in the village next to the castle but is a bit lacking in atmosphere - just 2 rooms next to each other, 10-15 seats and 4-5 tables in each, lighting a bit bright, no music. Service was OK but not very quick. The food was a bit disappointing to be honest. My queso al horno was good as a starter and I enjoyed my revueltos with verduras (scrambled eggs with vegetables) though it was disappointing they'd got no mushrooms as per the menu (& in the mountains in Spain in the autumn, too!) and it wasn't that hot. I was also disappointed that they'd run out of the courgette carpaccio on the menu - though there were few others in the restaurant and none of them were eating it. My wife's artichoke starter was delicious, but the fish she had for her main course was neither fresh nor very tasty, and the baked potato she had with it was almost cold. We didn't have a dessert, and decided quickly not to come back the next evening either. We did much better the next evening at the Bar El Cortijo just outside the castle walls - better and cheaper food, hotter (!), and much better atmosphere. El Aljibe would do better with a shorter menu, making sure they can offer all the dishes, improving the atmosphere, and serving the food hot.

Each time we are within driving distance from this wonderful place, we make sure to pay a visit. Old convent converted in hotel and restaurant, with a vast land property around it, it has wonderful food, venison, local Andalusian specialties. Very courteous and efficient staff. Thank you

We went on a night when most restaurants were closed or not open on posted times. Menu was comprehensive, service good, and location on the square very pleasant. We ordered steak which was a nice portion but at best average quality (grizzly), Desserts were very good.

Great little restaurant with the best service. There are 2 types of menus - Spanish/Med and Japanese. We actually never tried Spanish one, so no comment there. But their sushi menu and choice is unbelievable! There are numerous pages to chose from. So, if you are sushi fans like us - Highly recommended. Beautiful location with great view too.
