This place is tucked away off the road and we had walked by many times without even noticing it was there. On the recommendation of our hotel owner(who has never steered us wrong) we tried this place out on our last night in Santa. The space is outdoors set under a tree, hence the name, and was beautiful and understated. Our server was excellent and explained any dishes we had questions on. She followed up often but was not intrusive in the least. Our dishes, split between four people, were delicious. We tried a number of small plates and a few of the larger ones and were very happy with them all. The tuna was the stand out favourite for everyone. Itâs not the cheapest place but I didnât feel that it was overpriced for what we received. Thanks a lot of your review, you described perfectly our idea of Bajo el Ãrbol. We feel really happy when people recognise our job. Hope to see you soon in Bajo el Ãrbol. Regards

Weâve eaten here several times for many years and had good food. Unfortunately, this year the restaurant has gone way downhill. The toilet and bathroom tap were broken so there was no lavatory available on premises. The only wash sink available had no soap/towels available. Midway through our lunch the cook came out to brush her teeth at the sink. The waitress then used the same sink to wet a broom to wash the floor. The food was extremely basic and devoid of flavour. And there was one scratchy CD played over and over at high volume. Also, cafe is currently receiving a few white faced capuchin visitors which is quite normal for the area but they occasionally jump down the trees to nick stuff off the tables. Families with small children might need to keep an eye on little ones. Shame to see this place has gotten so bad as the cafe is one of the few places in town with a beach breeze and food used to be quite tasty traditional Tico.

We had the fish. Must say it was very dry and had no tast. Rice and vegetable uncooked. I would not recomend it. I would love to give 0 stars for that.Nice ambiente with a sea view.Service okey.HelloWe serve catch of the day fish, since we are on the beach and we buy to the local fishermen.I can´t understand what happened with your food. We are here since 1993 and I can assure you that it has not been selling bad food. Quite the opposite...Well, We hope you can give us the opportunity to demonstrate you the quality of our food, in your next visit to Montezuma. To serve you.Miguel

Barbecued meats, barbecued pizzas, hamburguers, salads and special drinks, all in the same place! Welcome!
We had dinner twice at this restaurant, first some meat and then pizza. Everything is cooked in a parrilla the best Argentinian style. Portions are very large so beware of how much you order. My burger was delicious and so was the pizza with a very thin and crunchy crust. The bread with garlic is to die for!

We stayed at moana lodge for 3 nights, papaya lounge is the hotel restaurant. The first night we had dinner at the restaurant, the ocean views are amazing (high climb to the restaurant but 100% worth it!). The frensh bartender makes delicious cocktails and does a great job! Happy hour is from 4 till 6 perfect for watching the sunset! The food is oké, but little pricy, its a tapas concept so you can taste a lot of everything. Some or better then others, we loved the fresh calamari with home made sauce. The food itself was overall too salty. I self use a lot of salt while cooking at home, but the food in papaya lounge was really toooo much salted. Otherwise the dishes were perfect! The 2nd and 3th night of our stay the restaurant was closed, which was not so pleasant while we had no transportation. I couldn't understand because breakfast was served in the morning! it couldn't be that hard to make something for a few couples, if you can bake eggs in the morning you can improvise a little menu too! We enjoyed the food in town more, and for the same money you get better food! For cocktails tough its 100% recommended !
