Reviews on Southwestern food in Silver City, New Mexico, United States. As suggested by its name, Silver City began as a mining town at the height of the prospecting boom in the 1800s and has survived a long Wild West history that hosted such notorious notables as Billy the Kid and "Dangerous Dan" Tucker. Evidence of its even earlier history can be seen at the nearby Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument, where ancient homes of the Mongollon Pueblo still stand. Hikers, cyclists and outdoors enthusiasts flock to explore the scenery of the Gila National Forest.

30 years in business. Brown bag place
ok, so I am in silver city and looking for good food. I was told on Campus that the Grinder was 'excellent' .......... yep, it was 'college kid' food. So not so great but edible. I went with my children and husband. I want everyone to know, that if you don't want the counter girl making eyes at your man, don't take him with you. I was trying to place an order..... it took me literally yelling to get her to pay attention and take the order. Finally my husband said "you know what let me just go sit down". I can tell you that if this were a Hooters I would understand. But it isn't. My CHILDREN had to look at this disgusting sight. When my son said 'Mommy why is that ladies che ches poking out?" I had to explain that not ALL women respect themselves. I WILL NEVER GO BACK. I don't care who that girl is related to, I just know that someone isn't watching what their employees are wearing. YUK!

The relatives I had dinner with at La Cocina described the establishment as âa hole in the wallâ, which is accurate, and, Iâve found, the type of Mexican restaurant that offers excellent food. I wasnât disappointed with my selection of huevos rancheros, with the eggs done over easy as I ordered and plenty of cheese smothered with red sauce. The sauce was unique in my huevos rancheros experience, as it was red chile con carne, rather than the usual red sauce sans meat. That was a nice touch, with tender, chunky meat. There were a couple of disappointments, though. The first was the complimentary salsa and chips. The chips, which are made in-house, were over cooked and a bit on the stale side. Still-warm, freshly-made tortilla chips with good salsa are a joy. These chips were not, though the salsa was tasty with spicieness to my liking. The second disappointment was that beer or wine isnât available. But, I knew that going in, so no penalty for that.

All the menus I have found online are out-dated. This is average to low quality food. There are not any "healthy" selections on the menu. The American food is generally deep fried and from the freezer, the salad is bag salad. The "Mexican" food is generally good, but not what I prefer.

We had lunch here because it was the only place we found open on a Monday in downtown Silver City. The sandwiches were simple and served on toast with ruffled potato chips. There were Mexican entrees and a few blue plate specials. Waitresses were friendly. What really made the place was the pie! The day we were in they had pecan (my choice), peach, cherry (my husbandâs choice) and apple. They will warm it and add a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream if you ask. The pie was delicious!

A small cafe serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Open everyday from 7-3. Breakfast is served all day on Saturday and Sundays, dinner hours are from 5-8 pm Monday - Saturday
We placed our order for breakfast and waited 40 minutes for pancakes, an omelette, and two fruit plates. The fruit plates were barely there: two strawberries and a half a banana. The best part was this: They are advertised as having "vegan options"--we asked the waitress whether the wheat pancakes were vegan, and she said, "yes, I think, probably, I don't know, let me ask..." She came back with the cook who said "the pancakes are vegan but it depends on how vegan you are...they are made with buttermilk and eggs so if you eat those then they are vegan." Not sure how that logic works out, but ok.

This is supposed to be the place to go for Mexican food in Silver. There red enchiladas weren't bad. It truly didn't match up to the Mexican food in Las Cruces and El Paso. It did get crowded when i was there due to a softball tournament being in town. It did take awhile to get food
