Gallo Restaurant

So it's my in-laws anniversary and we decided to bring them here since my MIL wanted some spanish food. We had called ahead and was told after 5 p.m. reservations were not needed. We may have gotten there around 10 minutes to and the place was packed. We were seated by the 15 minutes they told us as the buzzer went off. Don't recommend sitting by the windows in the winter. I was wearing my coat and I wished I had boots on. My feet were frozen. So now to the food. The Picada was great. A little bit of everything to get us started. We should have known better because spanish restaurants are not known for their steaks, but needless to say, the majority of us ordered the T-bone steak. Now I ordered mine medium well as did my husband. Both were over cooked. So dry, I just couldn't bring myself to eat it. My MIL ordered hers medium rare. Hmmm, hers came out just as dry as mine. She was not happy at all. And we are all fearful of sending food back. I should've taken the manager up on redoing mine, but I didn't and wasted $22. My MIL figured, how long would it take for them to make a medium rare. So she took the offer. By the time the steak came out, she was pretty much done with the other items on her plate. They did provide her with a whole new plate with sides. So that was nice; however, she was now full. The green plantains or the tostones as I know them were precooked and super hard. Usually they don't look so dark when they are freshly made. My in-laws could not eat them being elderly with sensitive teeth. They were sort of hockey puckish. The service was so-so. I wished I would have been offered a water in addition to my drink and toward the end I had to ask the bus boy if he would bring me a glass. Note, party of 6 and over the tip is already added. So don't be fooled into thinking you need to provide a tip. My husband was ill all night. So we're not quite sure what he ate there to cause him to be sick. But he said we are never going back. It's too bad. As my FIL enjoyed his pork chops and my SIL enjoyed her tropical platter, which had chicken. Probably should have opted for chicken.

Chicken Place

Headed to Patchogue for wine and cheese and being a Friday night had to park a block further east. While headed west came across the restaurant. We so enjoyed the rotisserie chicken places in Cusco and Puno we decided to eat there instead. We ordered the fish ceviche, fries with sausage and of course the chicken along with a pitcher of sangria. Drinks came out followed by the food. Chicken and fries were delicious although the sausage seems to be grilled and split hot dogs. Quite tasty nonetheless. The ceviche was large pieces of tilapia with copious amounts of onion and a sweet potato. This was the best item ordered. Food was delicious. Check, with a full pitcher if the sangria was $50. We will be back again with friends.

What makes a Mexican restaurant stand out from the others? Service, food, and decor. Don Quijote's offers a rustic decor where you feel as if you have been invited to someone's hacienda. The table side gaucomale was fantastic! The mojito was prepared perfectly-- finely chopped mint! The sangria was fruity and the nachos were bountiful. My carne asada was prepared just the way I like it, and it came with yucca potato, rice beans, a mixed salad, and plantains. The paela had just the right balance of fish and meat and the burrito was huge and tasty! They gave me so much I had to bring half of it home. The fried ice cream was a real treat

This is our go to place when my husband and I want Columbian food. The staff is always welcoming, the portions large and food is delicious. The whole fish is a great dish. I don't understand any complaints about the staff. We don't speak Spanish and have never had difficulty communicating with the staff.

This was a wonderful discovery off the main restaurant drag in Patchogue. Wonderful fresh fish dishes and unique sauces. Everything tastes fresh, the fried dishes are not greasy, and the portions are huge. Service is excellent and our charming waitress even remembered our order from pror weeks. We brought friends who we've often shared fancier more expensive meals and they too were impressed.
