Reviews on South American food in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico. Morelia (Spanish pronunciation: [moˈɾelja]; from 1545 to 1828 known as Valladolid) is a city and municipality in the north central part of the state of Michoacán in central Mexico. The city is in the Guayangareo Valley and is the capital and largest city of the state. The main pre-Hispanic cultures here were the Purépecha and the Matlatzinca, but no major cities were founded in the valley during this time. The Spanish took control of the area in the 1520s. The Spanish under Viceroy Antonio de Mendoza founded a settlement here in 1541 with the name of Valladolid, which became rival to the nearby city of Pátzcuaro for dominance in Michoacán. In 1580, this rivalry ended in Valladolid’s favor and it became the capital of the colonial province. After the Mexican War of Independence, the city was renamed Morelia in honor of José María Morelos, who hailed from the city. In 1991, the city was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its well-preserved colonial buildings and layout of the historic center.

Well, lets say that this place isnt cheap. In here you will eat a lot of meat (maybe more that you wanted, but you cant stop) and see a lot of wealthy people and reunions. And maybe, just maybe, you will have to eat side to side with pacific drugdealers, which tend to go there, but they are pacific and if you have the lucky they go that day, they pay the check of everyone.

This place is very small, but the menu is simply delicious. Even suitable for meat lovers (you will forget about meat when you eat their portobello burger). The staff and the owner are so nice. The prices are also very cheap. Definitely recommend it!

Positive:- Certain dishes are hard to find elsewhere - "Agua de Maracuyá" really good- Kids area clean and safe- Hand made tortillasNegative:- Staff is definately working hard but waiting 1 hour for food is ridiculous- Ordered soup and a main course, soup came after cold- Food in general is lacking flavor- Prices compared to other restaurants in Morelia are pricey for what you receiveNOT the best restaurant offering "Tierra Caliente" food, try eating at "La Noria" in "La Huerta" if possible.

Found this place by accident. So happy we did, Memo is wonderful from service to stories! This place has a very international menu. Flavors and recipes from South America, Italiano, classic Mexican food, and a touch Asian! Liked it so much we went back for a second visit.First night the lamb cooked over wood fire sounded to good to pass up, we had the culottes and ribs. Grilled to perfection with Uruguayan flavors and side Argentino salad. On the second visit we had large blue shrimp with the same Uruguayan flavors and the best ever Chiles en Nogales that I've ever had! Super selection of wine. I must do if your in the area, the food is a collection of the owners favorite and best flavors found after traveling for 40 years around the world.
