Guirila con Cuajada is a typical and authentic Nicaraguan dish originating from the north of the country.
We spotted this place off of the park, and the buffet type service is what drew us in. It seems these buffets are authentic type eateries, and they are priced right.Very popular with the locals. You can look out onto the park from Fritanga Ramirez, which is also home to about a half dozen places to eat. The service was good. The food was rice and beans, fried plantain, salad, and either a grilled chicken half, pork, or beef. The cost was 70 cordoba, or about $2.75. For some strange reason the fried whole banana is an extra 10 cord. We both found all of our meals very filling. Very tasty. The owners husband was doing all of the grilling. We stood out as tourists, and he was very good at making us feel welcome. Shame we did not see other tourists there. Masaya was quite busy with them. The serial griller wanted to know what we thought of the food, and he was tickled to hear our praises. We did feel like guests, and that was very niceI am happy to have such a good review for a nice family run place like this. They enjoy what they do, and they take great pride. This is a sound choice for budget travelers. Self catering in Nicaragua is pricey if you want to eat a balanced meal. Places like this make it easy to stay well fed and on top of the money situation.

Iâve visited multiple different places at Laguna de Apoyo and this one really let me down. First of all, I brought my paddle board and they wouldnât let me bring it in. They said they had boards to rent so I couldnât use my own. Most places on the lagoon charge $5-$7 to enter and then once inside you can use their kayaks and paddle boards. This place requires you buy roughly $6 worth of overpriced food to use their facility and then they want $5 just to rent a life jacket and who knows how much to rent a kayak. What made me made is that there were clearly people who brought large inflatable floats and yet I couldnât use my inflatable paddle board They made a decent pizza but it was expensive for what you got. Much better food in Granada. Staff was not very friendly and not very attentive either. There are lots of other resorts to choose from......exercise your right. Try San Simeon itâs a much better value

Very good restaurant with a varied menu at affordable pricing. The place is large and can accommodate a large group indoors and there is also outdoor seating. Get there early as the restaurant fills up fast due to its popularity!

Ate here with Grayline tour guide, Eric, and driver. Was served a huge chunk of meat, rice, vegetable medley, salad plus a drink. For 3 people, the check was 12 USD. More than any of the touristy restaurants, this venue satisfied my hunger for food and hunger into how the locals live. The food was delicious. If you are on a tour in the area, check this place out and TREAT YOUR TOUR GUIDE!! It'll be your Nicaraguan experience.

We are vegetarians, and we had 6 meals here. Pancakes.m were very good- thick and fluffy, Desayuno Nica was outstanding- eggs really scrambled perfectly, which isnât easy, Desayuno Tropical was good- a little more granola than the yogurt could handle, but too much of a good thing... well? For lunch, quesadillas were nice, salsa fresca is delightful, and veggie brochettes were excellent. Excellent! Add some beans to the veggie brochette order. Veggie fajitas were really nice for dinner. Go easy on the chopped mint if you order a mojito!

Family owned/run restaurant-Great fusion of Nicaragua & Venezuela kitchenEverything is deliciously (and freshly) made... I strongly recommend the Arepas (since you'd be eating Nica food everyday if you're vacationing there anyway... And both the empanadas AND the Patacones are to die for! YumTheir smoothies are fresh and so are their natural juices (carrot/OJ is the best)Save your appetite for Monday's when they make mouth-watering soups (sopa de Albondigas is awesome)

Pros - TONS of quality handicrafts in one spot. Lots of food/drink options. Clean environment. I never felt like I was hassled by the people running the shops. If I just wanted to browse, they didn't care! First place I've traveled in a while that was that chill. Seemed a bit touristy - but not the worst thing ever.
