Reviews on Soups food in Salem, Oregon, United States. Named from the anglicized form of the Hebrew word "shalom," meaning peace, Salem provides visitors with exactly that - plus a horde of historic sites to explore and plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation. Oregon's capital, one of the oldest cities in the state, exudes simple, small-town hospitality with just enough politics and culture to keep things interesting. Tour the grand, gold-domed State Capitol to learn about the workings of the government, then head to the observation deck for a fantastic view of Salem and its surrounding area. Although the whole city is a living history lesson, brimming with old buildings and landmarks, the Mill Mission Museum is a definite standout. Art buffs should not miss the impressive Pacific Northwest collection at the Hallie Ford Art Museum. In between sights, take time to people watch or picnic at Bush's Pasture Park, or enjoy wine tasting at some of the local vineyards. Salem's idyllic setting, in the heart of the emerald Willamette Valley, coupled with its historic role as political hub for Oregon make it the perfect choice for a delightful and interesting weekend away.

Lunch as we drove from Oregon coast to Portland and wanting to get a flavor of Salem. Wild Pair was perfect choice. A very creative menu, locally sourced. Very personable wait staff. Ordered the flank steak salad with smoked paprika vinaigrette; one of the best salads ever. Table also ordered the Wild pear salad and one of the soups of the day, chicken, mushroom and rice. Both very tasty. Saved room for dessert because of the great choices. Selected the banana pecan cake with cream cheese icing. Oh my! More like a carrot cake with bananas instead of carrots. Perfect cream cheese icing, not too sweet. Such a large piece, we saved some to share later in the evening. Highly recommend.

Obsessed with trying both the highest rated Pho restaurants in Salem, we finally took a side trip to King Huong. This did not answer my question "Which is the best?", yet it revealed a restaurant with its own strengths and weaknesses. That said, the rating reflects my conclusion that this is a very meritorious restaurant. The broth is, to my taste, among the best I've had anywhere. Servings are generous, and the supplements (basil, bean sprouts, limes and chiles) are very comprehensive and abundant. Condiments were a bit sparse (only some diced pepper, Hoisin sauce, and soy sauce were on the table) and the pepper jar needed to be filled. Also ordered were Summer rolls with shrimp, which were both large and well-balanced. My spouse approved. Price was exceptionally competitive, well-deserving of being categorized as "Cheap Eats" even as quality was high. Service was a bit slow and erratic: a neighboring table had a significant problem with their order, and despite a number of servers it seemed like there was a lot of standing around and tentativeness. On the whole, I still haven't decided which is the best but am anxious to go back to Kin Huong to do further investigating.

Met a friend in this old house-turned-bar/restaurant for lunch. Atmosphere was quaint but hard to say it was "warm and cozy" because it was rather cool up on the second level.Tables are aplenty in small rooms so don't expect to have very private conversations. But if you're just enjoying a pint and good food from a decently-varied and priced menu. This is a good choice.

This restaurant hasn't changed much in 50 years and it's fun to see the old photos and newspaper clippings on the walls. Service was very good, but food was just average. Turkey sandwich was fine; fresh fruit on side was not very good- melon was hard and grapes were over-ripe. I expected that the cranberry sauce would be in the sandwich, but it was little portion of cranberry jelly on the side. Milkshake was all right.

I usually order some of the Black Sheep food at the next door Santiam Brewery. The food is always delicious and always reasonably priced .They do the regular burgers, chilli and nachos but also thankfully a couple of great salads. I love their Greek Salad in particular..helps keep the carbs down so i can ave a couple ales!Nice people, great food.Ah, shucks, you're making us blush! We're very proud of our salad offerings & are happy to hear that our customers love them just as much as we do. If you haven't been by in the last couple weeks, stop on over! We added a couple new salads to our pub menu to liven things up a bit (but, of course, we do still have our Greek as well as the Oregon Harvest, another favorite!) Thanks for the feedback, we look forward to hearing your take on some of new items! :)
