My wife and I decided to try a different Vietnamese restaurant in Nanaimo and discovered this little gem. Prices were reasonable with generous portions. I had ban xeo (Vietnamese crepe with vegetables, shrimp, and pork) and my wife had a bowl of pho. The ban xeo was excellent with a generous portion of lettuce and cilantro to wrap the pieces od crepe on. My wife said the broth flavour was good, but wasn't hot enough. I also noted that our pot of green tea was luke warm. Would have given a five star rating, but we're pleased with the food. Will be back again.

Casual, authentic Japanese restaurant specialized in Ramen Noodle Soups and Rice Bowls. Open 7 days a week, except holidays. Licensed.
This reminds me of a typical authentic Japanese restaurant. No sushi here. Ramen is served and the Japanese chef is an expert at it. Don buri is excellent. Mini deep fried tempura octopus is my favorite. Mostly Japanese locals eat here. If you are looking for authentic experience this is the place. It's not about fancy rather that getting some real eats. Haven't eaten anything I didn't like here. I have eaten here many times.

I have to absolutely rave about the food at this place even though it's a touch on the pricy side. The sandwiches are divine, the soups are delectable and the cakes will have you licking your lips in glee. The service is wonderful as well as even though the place can get busy at times, they try hard to keep everything together and all the customers happy. The place itself is in a very high ceilinged funky building and it's a touch dark in there so it would be great if all the light bulbs on that high ceiling worked. Regardless, it's well worth visiting and enjoying some great food.

This is really a wonderful restaurant for breakfast in every possible way. The service was so attentive that it was totally refreshing, the restaurant itself is very comfortable, chic, and well kept, and the breakfast was AWESOME! The huge sausage slices were magnificently savoury, the potatoes were crisped to perfection, the scramble was a cloud of eggy deliciousness, and the house made mixed berry compote on the wonderfully toasted sourdough bread was a total delight. The bottomless cup of coffee was one of the best in town, and it was wonderful for the server to always keep it topped up to the brim. Even the wifi was free and very fast! This is definitely one of the best breakfasts anywhere on the Mid Island!

Family owned and operated since 1998, Huong Lan is where Islanders go to experience authentic Vietnamese cuisine on Vancouver Island.
We have never ate in, we always pick up & take home. We have NEVER had a bad meal - enjoy more than Chinese - fresher tasting. We get #28 - but instead of grilled pork patty we sub with grilled chicken pieces. Donât know why this isnât on the menu .. we were introduced to it at Vietnamese rest. In Calgary - just glad H.L. makes it for us. The staff behind counter & cash are great - Keep on doing the great job you do, one day weâll eat in ;)
