A warm, inviting atmosphere best defines Cafe Navarre. Clearly one of downtown South Bend's most attractive buildings from the exterior, and the view from inside Cafe Navarre is nothing short of breathtaking. The fusion of Old World style architecture wit
The interior of this long ago Bank Building is beautiful, so well done with seamless remodeling. The greatest treats though were the service and the food. The meals are a bit on the pricier side for South Bend, Indiana HOWEVER they are an exceptional VALUE . I had fresh Norwegian trout (not frozen), mussels in an incredible smoky bacon & corn broth that were a true delight to experience. I had a small piece of my trout, cold , for breakfast just now. (it was just too good to leave behind) OH MY, it was again a true taste delight!! Cesar, our waitperson, in answering my query about the origins of the building , finished with "and now it's the best restaurant in S. Bend". I would add: BEST restaurant in any direction , 90 miles from S. Bend.We love that you enjoyed your dining experience with us at Cafe Navarre. It sounds like your meal was invcredible and we strive for perfection in every dish. We hope to see you again soon. Joel GardManager, Cafe Navarre

I am not a huge soup person but had a craving for potato soup my boyfriend found this place. He brought it to me at work so I did not see the restaurant. It was perfect, exactly what I was after. I was not able to eat the sandwich as I was so full. the soup comes with a fresh "french roll" or Sourdough roll, both of which were delicious. I will have the sandwich tomorrow for lunch. My boyfriend ate his sandwich and he really enjoyed it.So happy we found this place! Thanks for the awesome review Valerie! We're glad our Loaded Baked Potato soup was so satisfying for you. We serve 12 always-rotating soups daily that you can sample before ordering. We look forward to serving you again soon!

I have been here several times and am never disappointed! The food is always fabulous and the presentation impeccable. I know someone commented about them having rated grandma's pantry, but I think the "cottage chic" mismatched vintage china, teapots, salt and pepper shakers etc., are charming! Don't be turned off by the rather humdrum location and exterior. This is my go-to for lunch with friends or sisters.

I visited McAllister's for lunch today on a Saturday. What always impresses me here is that the restaurant is always so clean that it still seems brand new. The staff were friendly and efficient and the manager, Paul, was very helpful. Paul seems to know all the ingredients of every item on the menu and he's very helpful if you can't decide what to get. I had the club on a ciabatta roll instead of the normal bread and it was perfect. The potato soup was good and the Savannah salad was a delightful interesting mix of turkey, cranberries, cucumbers and greens all topped with a very unique dressing that really melds all the flavors together. So many restaurants today all have the same salads, it's nice to have something unique once in a while. Would totally recommend McAllister's and will be back soon!
