We stopped here for a bite to eat after catching a sunset at May flower beach. We wanted to try something new. The food was good, the staff were attentive, friendly and efficient. First and last breakfast here. Bait and switch. Asked for OJ, not asked if we wanted small or large. Received huge $4 OJ not wanted. Ordered $12 hash omelet. Asked what we wanted for "sides" which implies it's included in price. Got fruit and an additional $1.99 was added bringing total omelet plate cost at $13.99: ridiculous! The "hash" in omelet tasted like shredded, tasteless cardboard. Interior is blandly clean and boring. Most expensively awful breakfast we've ever had. Please try the Chatham Filling Station instead and have great food, at a reasonable price, in a charming setting... Thank you for visiting. Sorry about the size of the oj, not specifying the size/price. The fruit cup has an upcharge vs potatoes, as they cost more, but should have been said before you choose; I will make sure staff specify. Yes, we have many pedestrians visit us as we are in downtown Harwichport, which is great for walking to; as well as plenty of parking in our lot outback too.

We entertained some local friends with whom we were staying. It took a little while to choose our meals and we then ordered as volumes appeared large, each couple shared at least one course. My wife and I chose the salmon with king prawns. The meal was tasty but towards the end of eating this dish, I realised that we had not had the prawns at all. I told the waiter when he collected the plates and he said that he would talk to the kitchen. When the bill arrived, we noticed that the dish had been charged at full price even though it had not been the full portion. We were not happy to stay and argue, so I paid a 10% service charge instead of the expected twenty per cent. This rather spoilt what could have been an excellent evening out to dinner.

The Skipper Restaurant & Chowder House is a seasonal restaurant open from mid April to mid October. We serve the finest seafood with the best view since 1936. Winner of the Newport, Boston and Cape Cod chowder festivals.
One of Cape Cod's oldest restaurants, the Skipper was founded in 1936 just off the coast of Nantucket Sound. I suspect that, when initially constructed, unobstructed views of the Sound were available. Currently, Seaside Cottages are between them and the water. However, if you gaze to the Northeast, especially when sitting their second floor deck, yes you can see the ocean. Parking is available in a surface lot across the street. As mentioned above, the restaurant has two floors. The first floor is family dining. The second floor has a bar with inside seating as well as a deck with South facing views. We requested and were provided seating on their outside deck. Even on an off-season week night, the Skipper was busy when we arrived for dinner. We had a 30 minute wait for a table. However, when we were done eating and leaving, we saw that the number of people waiting was near triple what it was when we arrived. This is a testament to their popularity. Our server was very good, friendly, efficient and quick. Their menu definitely focuses on fresh seafood, which is what I love. My other half is a vegetarian but is kind enough to allow me to satisfy my appetite for seafood, especially when it is so fresh. The Skipper's menu has a wonderful array of fresh fish and shellfish. The have a raw bar as well as many appetizer and cooked seafood options. They offer soups and salads, including their Triple Crown Champion Chowder. Of course, they too offer lobster and lobster rolls. If a "land lover" is in your group, they have Chicken Parmesan, Prime Rib and Fried Chicken options. In our case, we had their 10 Knot Nachos (Tortilla chips topped with jalapeño peppers, red onions, black olives, diced ripe tomatoes, scallions and jack cheese. Salsa and sour cream served on the side) and their Fried Oyster platter. The portion size was perfect for both selections. I found the oysters nicely breaded, lightly fried, juicy and flavorful - perfect for my appetite. We liked the food, location and ambiance of the Skipper and would gladly return.
