Find out what Soups restaurants to try in Assisi. Best known as the birthplace of St. Francis, Italy's patron saint, Assisi lies amid Umbria's rolling hills. Religious pilgrims have come here for centuries to visit the Basilica of San Francesco (where St. Francis is buried) and the Basilica of Santa Chiara (to see the tomb of St. Clare). Visit the Eremo delle Carceri to see caves where medieval hermits withdrew from the world. (You may find such solitude quite appealing—especially if you're here on a daytrip from Rome!)
Things to do in Assisi

We booked for dinner having called in at lunchtime when there wasn't a table available. We arrived at 7.30 and were the only diners apart from one other couple all evening. The ambience was less pleasant/intimate than at lunchtime due to the harsh lighting. We both chose pasta dishes to start (one gluten-free) which were exceptionally good. Things went downhill from there. We both chose the veal on the recommendation of our waitress. When the meals arrived one was stone cold and had to be returned and was brought back 2 minutes later and hotter. Both veal steaks were tough, chewy and not enjoyable while the potatoes tasted dry and reheated. Overall both meals looked unappetising. The waitress observed our lack of enjoyment and commented 'better next time'. There wont be a next time. Very disappointed as this was the most expensive meal we had in our 4 days in Assisi and had been looking forward to it.

OK, so it was very close. But it was a mistake. My wife ordered pork shank. Tough and dried out. Even the roasted potatoes, which we have enjoyed in several places in Italy, were not up to par. And the service was abysmal. SLOW. Took 15 minutes to just get something to drink. Tables are so close together you might as well sit in the other party's lap. Pass on by. Walk up the street to the central plaza.

How can you re-invent the best? Yet there are restaurants that try to do just that. Italian food does not need reinvention but perfection! Buca does that in food, setting and service. Classic local cuisine in a setting that is conducive to dining with a staff that is ready when you are and is secure enough to leave you alone. Menu del Biordo will not disappoint. My only regret this time around was it was not favorable to eat outside.

Located in one of the narrow streets of Assisi, just 50 meters from Piazza Santa Chiara. The restaurant offers friendly environment and family atmosphere. The traditional Umbrian dishes are prepared using only fresh and local products.Outside seating
Opposite the church of Santa Chiara, one must go up some stairs before they get a glimpse of this gem. A medieval home converted to a wonderful restaurant offering the best pasta in town. Service was impeccable.& reasonably priced. Highly recommend it! Will definitely return!

What a fabulous restaurant. After walking through the woods, it was such a lovely surprise to find such an authentic Umbrian building and the meal was delicious. I loved the open fire with the food cooking on it. The meal set us up for the walk back up!

My friend and I had been recommended this restaurant. Itâs a little âhole in the wallâ restaurant with stone walls and only a short walk from San Francesco Bascilica. The waiter was very friendly and informative. He took the time to explain and translate the menu and help us to choose our food. We actually wanted a light meal as we werenât that hungry. However we ordered more food than we wanted and actually ate every mouthful as the food was so delicious. The burrata mozzarella with a rocket pesto was delicious and refreshing. We had the grilled lamb which was succulent and cooked to perfection as was the creamy pepper steak. We also ordered a side of spinach. We shared the semifreddo and it was a perfect way to finish the meal. We have become quite accustomed to finishing our meal with a digestive during our trip to Italy and we enjoyed a nice local one. We also loved the Vermintino white wine recommended by the waiter. Our waiter made the meal all the more enjoyable as he was attentive, knowledgeable and full of Italian charm.I highly recommend this restaurant when visiting Assisi. Definitely the best meal we had in Assisi!

This was our second restaurant in Assisi in the Umbria region. Given the reputation of this region for sausages and alike, we tried the âantipasto mistoâ mixes cured salami e cheese: just delicious and unique as they are from this region. The first course , tagliatelle with tartufo was excellent as well as the desserts. Last but not least the staff was super
