When visiting Zeeland, this is one of the best stop for fresh mussels. Nice terrace on the atmospheric city square of Zierikzee. You get the mussels on your table in a large bucket (quite original) and they are well prepared with fresh vegetables, chilli pepers, etc. The side dishes are so-so (small portions and simple salad), but I will come back for the sea food itself! Friendly staff, good selection of wines.

Called in for dinner with three adults and a child. We asked for mussels and kids menu. The portions were HUGE and it was pretty tasty so we were overall satisfied. The staff was friendly and quick. Comparing this to some other diner we had at the square - this one was much better. If someone visits Zierikzee even for a small stroll he should definitely have a dinner here.

Zeeland Heaven is a rough translation of this charming restaurant's name, and you'll see why when you step into the garden. In the center of this beautifully-preserved town, you can purchase the ingredients of your meal at the shop, and even follow Monique's recipes (if you can read Dutch) in her cookbook. With husband Joost, the welcome is warm and the dishes very imaginative. Truly, Zierikzee and the Zeeuwse Hemel are treasures.

Poor service, the worst waiter ever found tried all her best to make our stay unpleasant. Didnât offer a menu when we arrived, after we asked we only received a part of it unlike other guests, we asked which sides were included and she explicitly mentioned bread (that never arrived but again was omnipresent in others tables). Food we ordered was just average.

I was pleasantly surprised to find this gem right in the middle of the Zierikzee village.Has all the qualities of a true Portuguese restaurant, vey nice owner, very decent wine list (Portuguese), a variety of Portuguese delicatessen and typical dishes.Typically decorated with nice mix of Portuguese fado, Brazilian and Afro-Portuguese background music. The service was quick and very professional and the food extremely tasty.Worth paying a visit if you like Portuguese cuisine in the appropriate ambiance.

Had a quite delicious lunch - mussels for for my wife and a chunky fish soup for me followed by crepes suzettes and flambeed cherries. The initial service was quick and efficient but it took a while to order dessert. We were driving so didn't attack the wine list. We sat outside on a mild, if not very warm sunny day. The town was absolutely full of people visiting for the fair and summer tourism. But the location of de Proeverij is away from the more crowded areas. There is a view down the canal towards the old tower and gate - very picturesque. Lovely ambience.

Took friends here for lunch it was our third visit. Previously we had found staff friendly and helpful. A table was found no problem and we sat inside. This visit however the staff were unhelpful. We were told we could not sit inside although there were tables free. A table was arranged outside, luckily the rain held off. Service was very slow. So we will be reluctant to visit again.

This place is really excellent. We were recommended to try it by our B&B host and fortunately went straight over to make a booking for the same evening.(They were really busy) We ate sitting outside on a fine evening by the canal; the location and atmosphere were perfect! The food was outstanding and the service efficient and very friendly. In two weeks of travelling round the Netherlands and Flanders this was probably our best meal. Hartelijke groeten!
