Convivial chain dishing up hearty portions of New Orleans-style seafood, steaks, salads & more.
Our west suburban friends who tipped us off to Parkers' Restaurant & Bar in Downers Grove also recommended the Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen in nearby Westmont. They're batting 1.000 in our culinary league. Located at 921 Pasquinelli Drive, off Route 83, north of Ogden Avenue, near the Oak Brook Mall, Pappadeaux's expansive and delicious and innovative menu reminds us of our not-too-long-ago vacation in New Orleans. We aren't into oysters, alligator, crawfish or octopus but the Pappas family, which opened their first restaurant in 1976, has built a chain that includes 90 locations in seven states and features drop-dead and hearty servings of New Orleans-style seafood, steaks, salads, soups and desserts. Based in Houston (most of the chain's locations are in Texas), Pappadeaux has only one location in Illinois--and this is it. Too bad. Because Illinois could use a lot more of this type of cuisine. Open at 11 a.m. daily, there aren't any other restaurants of its kind in the Chicago area. My wife and I started with gumbo with shrimp and seafood, classic Caesar salad and lobster bisque. For an entree, my wife couldn't resist one of her favorites, oven-roasted grouper with crab meat and parmesan asparagus. I chose grilled tilapia and jumbo shrimp with crab meat and green beans. But it was hard to pass up stuffed rainbow trout, American red snapper and shrimp and crispy Atlantic salmon and scallops. For dessert, we shared key lime pie and praline bread pudding souffle with vanilla ice cream. Next time I'll have to order the sweet potato pecan pie with vanilla ice cream. Or the creme brulee. I understand both are to die for. Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen isn't a hidden gem--it is located on always busy Route 83--and it doesn't come across as a chain restaurant. But for Chicagoans who are used to burgers, hot dogs and pizza, this New Orleans-style seafood is something special to add to your menu.

We were back in Chicago for a visit, and a Hindsdale couple we've known there for a very long time, recommended Parker's Grill for some good food. They are regulars there, and even made the reservations for us.Unfortunately the whole experience here was just awful.Felt like we were being profiled from the minute we valeted our car, a rented toyota.Perhaps pulling up in a Bentley or Jag might have got the evening off to a better start. We were seated alright, but in Siberia for sure. they gave us the one table between the kitchen and the toilet. Classy!Service was completely non-existent for us.They brought the menus, they brought the food and they brought the check. Not once during the entire meal did anyone ask how's your food? Can I refill your glass? Would you like another drink?I remember actually turning in my chair to try to make eye contact with any passing waiter and they all refused. WE COULD NOT WAIT TO GET OUT OF THERE.this place reminded me of the old Gene & Georgettis on the near north side.If you were a regular, life was good...... but if you were a fist timer.....BANISHED UPSTAIRS!very disappointed we spent all the money we did here , for ultimately so little.Don't bother, there's so many great places to eat around there.Just head east a little down 31st and stop in at Pappadeaux Seafood.they treat everybody the same over there.Hi, Peter. Please accept my sincerest apologies for the experience you describe. This is absolutely not how we want our guests to be treated or feel when they dine with us, and I am so disappointed to learn that we fell short on your visit. We had a couple of sides that were great and then the coconut cream pie was amazing our server Alex did an outstanding job. this might have been our first time to Capital Grille but it will not be our last.

Back visiting relatives & stopped in for her discount birthday meal. We all had the filets & they did not disappoint. Tender & seasoned just right. The chef made us sauted spinach (not listed on the menu) & it was yummy. Although quite on the spendy side, the food is perfection. Splurged for an excellent bottle of wine & thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Our service was superb. Highly recommend this restaurant for a special night out.

I tried this place with my family this past weekend based on reviews and I was not impressed. I ordered the special southwest salad as my entree for $14, it BARELY had any chicken in it. My husband ordered a beef dish and they served it in a bowl instead of on a plate, which made it hard to manage cutting and no where to put his knife. His beef portion looked to be about 3-4oz. The bill was over $100 with tip for 3 with no alcohol or desserts. I feel they really are skimpy with portion sizes and expensive, we will not come back.
