Clean, efficient and value for money; walk in and wait for 20 minutes during Sunday lunch hours. Over 20 people waiting but the restaurants are very efficient and people eat and go quickly.

There are cheaper places to eat sushi in Tomakomai, but for really fresh sushi with luscious toppings, Clipper and Shunraku were the best. Clipper is the best value if your main goal is delicious sushi. Shunraku`s sushi is also great but is slightly higher in price, catering to those who want good sushi and nice decor. Some must try sushi include Tomakomai`s speciality, Hokkigai. They also have some really interesting sushi such as Maitake Sushi (a kind of mushroom) that is really good. If you are on your way to Noboribetsu from Sapporo, it pays to take the Tomakomai Higashi exit off the toll way and then drive along the coast to Noboribetsu. They money you save on the toll is enough to pay for the sushi and the coast road is a lot more interesting.

This is a local gem!!! For just 1,500 yen, you can get your fix of fresh seafood (served in generous portions), ã¡ãã style for 1,000 yen and a ã¦ãã·ã side dish for 500 yen!!! Small reward for my diligent housework this morning... This place is a popular haunt with the locals and even office workers alike. And it's not difficult to see why... Another must-try is the local ããã ã¡ãããbasically giant clams, which is the local specialty seafood of Tomakomai.

The place is pretty small and cosy, seats about 20-30 people. Location is pretty nondescript and may be inconspicuous from the main road.

Located in a quaint little fishing port is this hidden gem. There is no English menu so be prepared to point at photos. It is a fuss free cafeteria decorated with signatures of celebrities from all over the country. Seafood is insanely fresh at unbelievable low prices! The must have dish is the surf clams. Beautifully sautéed with peppers and butter - I wish we could eat this every single day!
